Definately a cool article. I have just skimmed through it for now, but it is definately bookmarked for a thorough read later.

Thanks.

It was an interesting read, but unfortunately some very out-dated views on creation. The real unfortunate aspect of the information provided is that realistically, it's art from the perspective of an ex-programmer.

This unfortunately means it's far to thought-out about how it affects the hardware rather than what'll work and look good.
So as I said, interesting read but not exactly helpful really.

If I could remember where it is, there is a whitepaper from the level designer for Counter-Strike Source that is fairly invaluable for new artists to read imo

That's not exactly true. Alot of the aspects in the article are still used today. It's the premise of the idea that counts.

And I wouldn't exactly consider anyone who is associated with CS as being very credible. After all, CS was developed and came to fame on the backs of others and doesn't contain any original thought from it's creators.

CS is a very sore spot for me... so I'm going to drop it there.

Perhaps for game developers around here where technology really passes them by, and they never knew the basics to begin with.

You seem to be confusing Counter-Strike (independant) with Counter-Strike Source (Valve).
