Hey, I checked the forum rules and didnt see anything against this so ill give it a shot and if a mod thinks it needs to be locked then i apologize in advance.

I have a load of KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate aka Saltpeter) laying around that I used for some projects a while ago (making small batches of gunpowder and smokebombs and the like) and I just wondered if anyone knew of any sites or something with projects i can make with it? I would just make some more gunpowder but i ran out of sulfur and so i cant do that

I'm not trying to do anything stupid or illegal... just trying to make something that burns, bangs, or otherwise entertains me.

Any ideas/projects/websites would be awesome.

TIA!

I know of some, but none that would get past the AUP. Can only push the rules so far ^_^

Could always dilute with acid in a beaker.. leave it overnight and you get cool crystals. It's the only non-explosive solution I could think of

I'm happy to leave this unlocked, as long as the discussion does not turn to blowing things up, or giving instructions to do so.

However, in the interest of Science (which most of us here have), keep the talk on the safe side, and we'll see where it heads

Thanks Jess I was hoping u would think that

Sounds like a pretty neat idea Raven. What kinds of acid should I use. I've got acetic acid in my vinigar and hydrochloric acid in my "the works" do I just like dump em together, stir it, and let sit out until me acid evaporates?

Thanks all in advance!

potassium nitrate?

Make sure you wash it with water before using it.

why what does washing it with water do to it? ive never heard of doing that b4...

I made a batch of 8:3 KNO3/Charcol and it took like ten seconds to burn. I read that that was a usuable "sulfurless" formula but i disagree. I made a 1:2 KNO3/Sugar and it burned rather fast and smoked a lot (since it IS a smoke formula lol) and one thing that was really interesting about it is instead of getting smaller and shrinking when it burned it actually expanded! I looked really wierd and by the time it finished burning it was almost like a giant, dry, black sponge of ash...

I'll go do it again and take a picture this time...

Suicidal Sledder, try making you're own tooth paste with what you have left. Try mixing stuff you have in your kitchen with it, and try it on your teeth. As Potassium Nitrate is used in some tooth pastes.

Lol I have like 30 pounds of it... thats a lot of toothpaste!! Still though thats pretty kool... never heard that b4.

Lol ok as promised here are the pictures!

For some reason it burned faster than any gunpowder ive made even with sulfur... maybe my gunpowder porportions were off....

I too wish to blow something up legally but

So it looks like we're going to have to stick to burning, smoking, and making toothpaste!

Any one else have any ideas?

BatVink I'm very interested as to why we are not allowed to blow stuff up..... I'm not complaining I'm just interested.

And I'm up at 0100 getting very bored so I want to see something EXPLODE .

Yeah explosions are legal as long as they are done in moderation... but the Mods are here for a reason and whatever they say goes

on a side note... do you realize that ED stands for Erectile Dysfunction? Or at least here in the states it does... lol

I think if you heat it up until it liquefies and its in a test tube and you throw splinters of wood in it they will burst into flame and if you throw enough in there it'll look like a jet engine for a couple of seconds...just don't touch it. If memory serves that is.
