Yup. That's right, we're getting 7 new ones.

Official seven being announced on July 7.

I thought the whole point of a wonder was we stand there, WONDERING how the hell it came to be, how it could even be possible sometimes. We know how the Statue of Liberty and most of those other supposed wonders were made, so they should instantly be disqualified .

I don't see the point really, why does everything have to be 'reinvented' ? it kind of spoils the whole history behind it by making new wonders of the world, plus why are some of those even candidates? for example the Eiffel tower, Statue of liberty and that big Jesus thing. Also why are the pyramids even an option? they should automatically be one of them which is again just screwing with tradition. Seems more like a publicity stunt to me and should have been left alone.

Easter island Statues should be in there in my opinion.

Because six of them are just dirt rocks, etc. now.

The statue was made in the 19th century as a gift from France. Back in the 19th century, making something like that (HUGE by period standards) is an engineering marvel isn't it? Wouldn't the Eiffel Tower also be extremely hard to make back then?

But some are fairly pointless(or un-wonderful) like the Sydney Opera House and the Kiyumizu (sp?) Temple. < Not exactly wonders.

If marvels of engineering are considered wonders, then I think the Forth Rail Bridge should be in the running .

I think things like the Eiffel Tower and Liberty have their own history and don't need extra status - wonder should be reserved for trully wonderous structures that we simply can't comprehend. Impressive is just not enough IMO.

What about me? Many people wonder how someone so freakishly weird came to be...

Seriously though, I agree with Adam, something like Easter island statues...although we already do have 7 wonders of the world, we haven't discovered anything new since then...or are people wanting to make money from them so they're changing them?

I think that's exactly it, there's a lot of money in tourism, so getting a landmark with 'wonder' status would be something enviable, a bit like hosting the Olympics.

I go with Zappo and wonder bras. How can something so small be made to look so big? That's about the only one on the list that amazes me.

So you get one vote by internet, which is free. That seems fair. Until you see that you can have unlimited votes for a fee via SMS. The attractions that are willing to fork up the most money on votes will become the new wonders of the world. Lame.

By saying i wanted the easter islands there, i meant they should be a wonder of the world, not just in the list

Its funny, easter island heads gets more results than Maoi (which i believe is the actual name for them).

I think they should be there purely because we don't really know how old they are and since they were discovered in the 17th century, it has to be a time before that, how anyone carved these things back then is amazing...

That would probably have to go on the 7 natural wonders list. Unless there is something you need to tell us...

me and a friend were talking about wanting to see all 7 wonders of the world in our lifetime... but when we looked into it there are the "ancient wonders" (some of which it seems nobody knows where they are) and twenty other different definitions of what the 7 wonders of the world are...

kind of annoying

The ancient wonders are the "7 wonders of the world" They are:
The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Hanging gardens of Babylon, The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Colossus of Rhodes, The Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Most people think places like the Great wall of china or Stonehenge are in the list, but the list was originally created by the ancient Greeks, and they hadn't seen those landmarks.

This is where my signature would be If I had one.
