Hi,

I have made a website dedicated to promote the games I made with my grilfriend.

Ok, there is not a lot of stuff right now but at last, you can download a small demo of a game I made with her with darkbasic.

The adress is http://www.existenz-software.fr

I hope you will enjoy it. There will be more free games soon. So don't hesitate to come back frequently

Link for the lazy people

How many websites have you made thus far?
It's a pretty neat site, but you should add a bit more screenshots and story to it.

And the name is nicely chosen too: EXistenZ

Don't look at my sig!

I have made for myself only one website.

The name is inspired by the movie yes. But this name still hasn't been used by anyone (existenz-software). So I bought it.

I know that I have to improve it and it will be soon. actually, you have a report of what I made since march and I will go further.

What do you think about the game? The pictures were made by my girlfriend

See you

It's a nice game. Verry profesional looking, I alway focus just a tad more on graphics than I do on playability(). And I like the music alot, verry relaxing.
The mouse isn't working very well for me, how did you code it? You could add a lil smoothing to it so it would look like the bee has a wil of its own. also the wing animation of the bee is way to slow. In this movie on 5:50 you can see a bee very clearly to whay yours should look like.

Don't look at my sig!

The site is in French. I was able to figure out where you had the Frogger game and downloaded it, but it would not run.

Hi,

I just post some news from my website. The site has been made up. Tell me what you think about the banner in flash. However, I put some advertise from Motion-twin, a french game studio that makes online games with its own technology haXe (programming language)and neko (virtual machine)

I was ready to say "Flash Banner - noooo" or something like that... but I actually quite like it... Its a little distracting but its quite elegant and I do like the effect.

Well, good to present yourself, but there are some points to change:
- flash banner.
- my screen is not small, so I have everything on the left side and a white blank space on theright side.
- It is empty, there are many categories with nothing inside.

Et les publicités sont obligées, ou tu as le droit de les enlever ?

Hi,

For Nicholas Thompson. Your site is very cool. I like it. That is a good way to show we can use phpBB for other thing that a forum.

Actually, I try to improve my skills in programming websites. So I make my own website from scratch with asp.net/C#. I made the banner with sothink glanda, a cheaper alternative to adobe flash that can make some SWF files with actionscript capabilities.

For Damokles. I know, I have to center the display of my website to support 16:9 screen. It is about time
For the advertises, elles ne sont pas obligées mais je voulais savoir comment mettre des pub google. Elles ne me rapportent pas grand chose (0,69$ en deux mois) mais elles ne me dérangent pas.

For the motion-twin and Xzess advertises, I put it because I want to promote this game studio. I like their works.

For Chloroweb, it is one of my collegue that make her own company. It is just my way to help her.

I can't reach your website

You mean you can't reach my website ?
Yes, sionce a month, it's down, that's why I was searching a new webspace for it. It's also why I asked about the adds. On which webhost are you? If I may know ?
My site is tmporarly here : http://www.zendurl.com/a/aziotou/
But it's just a testing phase. I would prefer one that allows phpmyadmin too.

Ok,

I am hosted by ikoula, a microsoft partner. The price is 35€ per year for 250Mo (disk space) with full features of ASP.net 2.0, AJAX, PHP, flash ... There are some CMS (mambo, dotnetnuke...) and tools pre-installed if you want to use it (I don't find phpmyadmin)

You have also ovh (on vous héberge) that is cheaper but with less service but more space. You can install phpmyadmin by following the instructions from http://forum.ovh.com/showthread.php?t=10289

On Ikoula, I suppose there is phpmyadmin on it, because of this page

Oh and OVH has a nice thing to pay :
"OVH offre la possibilité aux clients domiciliés en Belgique d'utiliser le virement bancaire pour valider leurs bons de commande."
But do you know if they are reliable ? I mean, if the site will be down often, or any other problem that occurs with them ?

(Until now I always had free hosts, so I didn't care; but as soon as I have to pay, I don't want a bad quality)

I never had any problem with Ikoula. When you post a ticket, an answer is given before 2 hours (very impressive) that help you very much. It is a microsoft certified partner

My collegue website (chloroweb and others) are hosted by ovh and she told me that the quality is very high.

You can check other opinions on forum if you want

In the first time, I was more fond of ovh, but now, I begin to doubt, especially, when I see that files are limited in size in some versions, and that the MySQL database is so low in space.

Is there a file-size limit with ikoula ? (I didn't see one yet)

No, there isn't, and their support-team is very fast. Within 10 minutes, I got the answers to my mails. I think it#s a good point that will make me move to them.

phpBB? I spit on phpBB and all its swiss-cheese-like security holes!

The CMS I use is called Drupal and - for developers - it rocks!

Hosting - I'm in the UK and I have a VPS with a company called A2B2 as they're pretty cheap but their support is almost instant, its great! If your budget wont stretch that far, check out their sister company CheapVPS. I think they're UK only, but not sure. In any case, I had an email offer from them today. £25+VAT/m for an unlimited share of a 100mb line (which is gonna work out to about 2,000Gb a month) on a VPS with 512Mb RAM burstable to 1024mb, 40Gb hard disk and pretty much any Linux Distro you like. VPS's are great because you can run as many sites off it as you like (usually + depending on resource limits). You also get to chose things like which version of Apache, PHP & MySQL you want - assuming you even want them. Some people prefer LightHTTPD (I think thats right), or some people prefer PostGreSQL.

Hi,

I went to Drupal website to check. I understand better now why you phpbb is not so good.

You rent a server £25/month. That is the same price in france. Your website is nice. My girlfriend like your template but said that some pages are too long

Suggestions...

1) DO NOT use frame's... They're deprecated elements not used in web development anymore due to that fact we have no invented the wheel (Checkout sites like The CSS Zen Garden)

2) DO NOT use tables for layout... Again, "we" have moved on from that. The two main reasons for not using tables for layouts are; (1) You're combining the presentation layer with content layer. What if you wanna change the site's presentation? You cant - the content is bound to the presentation. (2) Tables are S-L-O-W. A browser will only render a table once it knows how large the content is going to be. Using CSS and Div's, on the other hand, is faster and the browser either knows the element size from the stylesheet or it can render it and deal with resizing later.

3) DO NOT bind two domains to the same content - google will see two unique URL's pointing at the same content and penalize you for duplicate content. If you want two domains to make it easy for people to use your site - pick one and redirect the other to it. Personally I'd go for the .com over the .fr - mainly because of the SEO implications. A .fr domain makes it clear to google that the contents is specific for France whereas .com is generally accepted to be a more global TLD - although its slightly biased towards US search results. Then again - it depends who you're aiming your site at!

4) Titles - every page of your site has the same title. How am I (from a search engine point of view) supposed to tell the difference between pages? This is part of the "frames" problem too (IIRC). Each page should have its own title.

Apart from that - I suggest more content, for example the games should have more of a description... and some screenshots too.

Hosting: APlus, worth looking at

For forums, do a google search for Simple Machines Forum, also called SMF. I know Nick is crazy about his Drupal but I can't let him escape clean without someone saying something about SMF, lol.
