Hi,

I know people say that you revise the way you do best, but I really want to know what ways to revise you find best, and more useful. I have the GCSEs looming over the next few years, and what is the best way?

Cheers,
Bozzy

Hour Bursts,
Rewrite notes?
Tests?

It depends on what works for YOU.

Don't over do it. You can't bring together collected, correlative thoughts if you have a heartbeat comparable to a rabbit's and enough adrenaline to make your hair stand on end.

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

GCSEs are easy, you can blag Seriously, don't blag.

What I like to do is grab the information, I need, rewrite it and then find an essay question on it and then answer it the most I can with the knowledge in my head -> the first couple of essays you could keep notes by your side.

But not all exams are note based - but with anything to revise, just 'do' - like in maths find or make math problems, English, find or make up questions - practice writing there - if it's literature, look at characters (If they're an evil character like Iago from Othello - look at motifs), look at themes, look at language used if necessary. Poetry - do something similar. Science is mainly knowledge based - just rewrite what you have notes on, from books or the internet. Humanity based courses are essay based - if necessary, get your opinion clear (Like for RE as an example)

Those are the sort of things I would do, I say 'would' because I barely revised for my GCSEs - I don't recommend it, most people that do that, do poorly - although I didn't, that's because I'm a cheeky git.

And of course, don't over do it, you need your mind at the end of the day, sleep of course, don't let it stress you, all you really need at the end of the day is a minimum of 5 C's to go on to the next step - colleges might be picky, but in the end, know that you don't need to pressurize yourself - all you need to do is know what you're talking about, and to know your subjects well.

You say 'years to come' - so I assume you're about to start year 10, meaning you can look back after you've done something new - so if you've done Diffusion and Osmosis in Biology, before the next lesson, recap everything you were taught about the two - rewrite it perhaps or do whatever gets it into your head quickest.

Remember - rewriting things and testing myself is what works best for me at the moment, so if they aren't efficient, I'd try another method and find the best suiting one, - reading the over doesn't work for most people well enough, so the 'easy-way out' isn't an option

Get past exam papers and do evry question on them, then do it again.

It will give you an idea of the areas you don't know and..

often questions are repeated or only changed slightly so you will ace it

In science, we are just starting a new course, so there are not any proper past papers to revise from, only ones from previous years that are different to what we will be getting.
However, we did try out a couple of past papers from these years and, as you said, the questions were alike:

2004:
An Indian village want to buy power for £200 etc
2005:
An African village want to buy power for £150 etc

@Seppuku Arts
Thanks for the lengthy answer!

Cheers,
Bozzy
