One question; Will there be a TDM/CTF multiplayer option in fpsc x10?

EDIT; I have started a poll on this topic;

Rick has already said they aren't doing anything with multiplayer for x9 or x10.It will be the same thing for x10 as for x9.

After so many complaints/whining and requests for new mp features? I hope TGC doesn't become one of those companies that don't care about the customer's opinions. That's one of the worst things I know. Like LucasArts, for example. They used to make great adventure games back in the day, but now, all they do is pump out Star Wars games that are all the same. The people have been crying for a new installment to Monkey Island, but nothing's happening as far as I know.

O dear, thats put me off a bit, with new software I expect different options/functions. I personally would like to see some multiplayer improvement as online games are more popular than single player games nowadays in my opinion!

Only reason I would buy Vista/X10 is for the MP feature. Very disapointed.. TGC are sounding more and more like Steam. Pumping out adverts, and things without features that people want.

No new mp functions, well they lost my money there. After all this bickering theyve been hearing from us about MP features, nothing gets added. Steam-to-be.

Personally, if they fixed all the SP issues, then that will make me happy.

Once those issues are fixed the MP will be better as well (frame rate, clipping, etc). I am sure they aren't just going to not add anything to the MP. I think they want to make a really good SP release before they start improving MP.

When the new source comes out then I'm editing it straight away, and getting people to request features, because I can't stand another FPSC deathmatch game to be honest, it would be ok with dynamic lights etc. but the features are just way too restricted at the moment.

Either they hand over the source code for FPSC X10 Immediately when it comes out, Give it Team based multiplayer (With careful attention capture the flag is achievable), They lost a customer here, I was thinking of getting X10 and even vista just for this, but with no enhanced multiplayer, I'm not buying. I'll stick back here and wait for the 1.06 source code...

Whoa now people, settle down! I'm sure TGC will update the MP in time. With all these people requesting it like crazy this past month I don't see how they couldn't. Have some patience and respect. They could just drop the program all together and not even make an X10. Infact if it weren't for them you wouldn't have an FPSC to use at all.

I want vehicles really bad. It's in almost every FPS game these days but you don't see me starting a petition or bashing them for not adding it. Right now they're working on fixing bugs and finishing the current features in X10. I don't know about you but I'd rather have a few features that work like they should than a lot of buggy features that don't even work half the time.

It's just that FPSC has been out for a couple of years, and now that we get a major over-hal its missing one of THE most requested things. a game can live without cars, but multiplayers becoming a requirement.

I just hate it when people seem to expect TGC to do things - they have every right to discontinue the software if they'd like (abeit they'd have a lot of unhappy and disappointed customers) or just leave it the way it is.

online games can often be very unstable and complicated to program, and im pretty sure TGC have made the decision to prolong the development to make the software more stable (as with the DX9 version, before any new features are added) so multiplayer is a strange field to venture into.

Though i will back up the thoughts on team deathmatch, as this seems very much more possible considering that the new "ally/enemy" variables are in the engine.

isnt CTF kind of possible anyway? seeing as there is an option to have the player win by 'completing an objective' which could just be collecting an item, then the next objective to go to a trigger zone?

havent gone very far into MP to look at that, so i could be horribly wrong.

Hm, in theory it sounds all possible, to have objectives for CTF. But then again, you'd have to make it so that if the player carrying the flag died, the flag dropped again. Either that, or you could make that player's team lose, I dunno.

And also friendly fire is a big issue, It's just that these things should not be that complex to do. I can understand one reason why dynamic objects don't work, so players cant pick them up since there is no sufficient holding animation. but that can be taken out for multiplayer alone, to allow us to keep dynamic objects for other purposes, such as a so called "Co-up mode", since the enemy's will have to target player models, they could be given something similar to the AI script. As for friendly fire, a system of different "Bullet rays" could be used for that. I understand that these changes could take about 2 month's, but what are 2 month's compared to the years we've waited for an overhaul (me more silently). I mean they have more time for this since this is there day job from what I understand. Saying that they could just drop this right now just isn't right, it's like saying that the US government will stop protecting it's citizens since citizens complaining about the Iraqi war.

I'd like to see more MP options, etc.

but i'll be happy as long as they don't strip the specs down like the current version. ie: keep all the amazing new graphics intact in X10 multiplayer like the water and lighting.

Talking about multiplayer options, just went back to the newsletter were FPSC was announced, what a miracle, Co-up WAS promised... (see for yourselves:http://www.thegamecreators.com/?gf=newsletter_issue_14)

even later they had a Q&A with some more features promised:

On rail Turrets:
Quote: "
Q: Are any types of turret or vehicle functions included?
A: Yes you can have turrets - i.e. gun placements a player can mount. The turrets could even be on rails. We are not however including fully driveable vehicles in the first release ala UT2004/Halo."

More About Co-up:
Quote: "Q: Can you create an on-line game for just 2 players?
A: Yes. You can create a co-operative on-line game. The game will scale the difficulty automatically based on the number of players participating."

Wow. a lot of the stuff about FPSC in that old 2004 newsletter are just now being added. Like ragdoll.

Quote: "How about a game set in an under-water base where blowing out one of the windows causes the corridor to flood with water? You can script this event easily with some basic AI and apply a water FX to the whole corridor. It will all wobble and swim about accordingly."

That would be amazing.

Quote: "As well as being a stand-alone application, the Map Editor in FPS Creator will also be able to export .map files which can then be used in other FPS games such as the Quake series."

Hmm... wonder whatever happened to that feature?

Ok I fill I should put my money where my mouth is, now I can understand that the MP option are hard to configure and that we are using a $50 engine but I seen this on Amazon
Programming a Multiplayer FPS in DirectX (Game Development Series)

http://www.amazon.com/Programming-Multiplayer-DirectX-Game-Development/dp/1584503637 and what I want to know, is the source code for FPSC/DBP similar to DirectX.
(I don't think I even know what I'm trying to ask) BUT anyway I’m learning DBP

Wow Reading that made me laugh. Almost everything on that newsletter was false. Why didn't they just admit it wouldn't have co-op and ragdoll? Instead of saying t would have things that it wouldn't. Up untill now I though TGC were an Honest company, that one newsletter made me think differetly.

I really wish that they would add it though, because those would be awesome additions, and they said that they would do it in the first place.

I think Rick did say a while ago that a lot of features were going to be added to x9 after x10 production is done, but I'm not sure.
