I saw an advertisement banner here on TGC for some virtual world called Kaneva, and I figured I would check it out. Have any of you seen this or played around with it? It's basically similar to Second Life or Playstation Home, but after a limited period of time playing with stuff, I can't really figure out what their angle is. It's free to use, and they give you a bunch of money to start out with, but after that it seems you need to pay for credits with real money. I bought a house and some furniture, but otherwise I ran out of cash pretty quickly. I guess they give out $1000 on certain days of the week, if you participate in their stress tests (its still in beta), but I dunno... what do you all think of Kaneva?

I think it might be kind of neat, if only because it seems you can build a store-front (called "hangouts" in Kaneva) without paying any real money (well, so long as you take part in those stress tests). It would be kind of neat to make TGC hangout, and have a virtual meeting place where we could have a TGC convention whenever we felt like it . And for those of us with game studios (yeah, that narrows it down), we could have an added avenue of PR, with Kaneva users visiting our company's hangouts, chatting with developers and trying out games. So what do you guys think? Is this just a cheesy knock-off of Second Life and Playstation Home, or do you think this might become something nifty down the road?

A PS Home knockoff? PS Home was just announced a few months ago, so for an MMOG that is already out, odds are PS Home is a knockoff of it

EDIT:

So it's basically Myspace with a cheap Second Life module duct taped to it.

That's weird... did you visit my profile? Maybe try adding me to your friends or something. What's your name in the game? I'll keep an eye out for you and I'll hang out in the mall so you can find me easier.

I'm kind of annoyed at this already. I wanted to make a MISoft Studios community and hangout, and that all seemed to work fine, but it won't let me edit the hangout! Kind of annoying, and it would nix my plans to create a TGC community in Kaneva.
