To the point: I want to buy a new game, but matching the following criteria. I don't have broadband so downloading demos takes... 2 weeks or so to finish. I would *really* appreciate your opinions on which game is the best buy. Of course, support with a reason is important. Have your say! Tell us what do you think is the best.

1) Great storyline
2) Graphics aren't *that* important but must be as good as Deus Ex, No one lives forever, Hitman 2,3
3) my main interest is RPG, action, action-adventure, pure adventure
4) Fav games so far (in order): Deus Ex 1, GTA series (all of em), Gabriel Knight 3, Hitman 2-3, NFS underground 2, Outcast, Discworld Noir, Stupid Invaders, Anachronox, Halflife.

Please help!!

Oblivion? And I'm guessing you're just talking about for PC. If not, the Ratchet and Clank series and Jak and Daxter series are good for PS2 (and possibly XBOX?).

Try Beyond Good and Evil - had a great style, is a budget game now. Has a very well written plot and rather fun gameplay. The gameplay kinda matches Deus Ex - it's not as levelling based as normal RPG's are. Try looking for some screenies and a review, you might like it.

For RPG I'd say go with Oblivion or Dark Messiah - Oblivion being the prime one. Those are really RPG RPG's, not action RPG's or FPS/RPG's. Just pure levelling, questing and grinding.

Once again, I recommend, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.

Well, I like the storyline, very interesting with a great ending.

If you can support it, the graphics are great!

It is an fps game, but it does have adventure and action elements. you can use brutal force to win, or you can use stealth. You can cling on to bars on the ceiling and drop on people to break their neck. you can sneak up behind people and break their neck, you can "relieve" someone of their weapon.

Its all in all a great game that i loved playing.

if you never played FF7, play it. don't pay any attention to any smart-ass dochebag who is telling you that FF7 has crappy cheesy story, full of plot holes and crappy battle system.

unlike many games i have played, FF7 and it touched me 10 times deeper than any other game.

the cheesiness of he story doesn't take away or ruin anything. the very few plot-holes make it more interesting. and those who say the game is full of them, are stupid ignorant doches who's brain isn't big enough to comprehend the story.

The crappy blocky cartoony characters in my opinion worked out very well. No better graphics could have made this game better.

Half life 2

Wht makes HL2 better than other fps is the non static environment. Unlike most fps games where the only thing that moves are the enemies and stuff you shoot. in hl2 you get to fight gunships, helicopters (sometimes more than one at a time and sometimes while you are moving in a vehicle) you get bombarded with missiles, and shells space satellites. tripods that kick big things at you and make it rain cars.

HL2 is very EPIC

morrowind and oblvion. Oblivion has better graphics, but morrowind is more unique and more modding capabilities. i like MW better. but whatever game you take, you will spend quite a while plying it.

Condemned criminal origins:

from creators of FEAR, comes the ultimate suspense game. the sound here is louder than the visuals which makes you very creeped out. you know someone is following you, you turn around and see either nothing or something that you didn't expect. sometimes when you defeat an enemy, you look at the corpse and wonder Wa the hell is that, I think its a human. Or had been a human once upon a time. If its still a human, what the hell did it do to itself? and why?

highly recommend this game.

Stalker shadow of Chernobyl

a mix of HL2 and Oblivion awesome game, you actually get to fight smart npc's for a change. the levels are huge. the atmosphere s great even at dx8 mode the graphics look awesome. playing this game is like coming to earth from a different planet and seeing the remains of human civilization. ruined buildings, rusty cars, abandoned places. very well done.

carmageddon 2 if you like smashing stuff, the cars in this game are like clay. smash them rip them trash, bash crash, whatever. The level are all unique and interesting. The only reason i like this game is the smashing of cars.

Second sight. You have psychic powers. you can use your surroundings as a weapon. the game play is very awesome. recommend it.

jedi outcast and jedi academy

outcast has the cool story, academy has the awesome light saber battle.

jedi knight dark forces 2 1996, for old times sake. a long game. i enjoyed it

shadwos of empire

i played it for n64 but there is a pc version. best n64 game i hve played.

i think there is more, but i don't remember

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

I'd say it depends on what you've played, I mean I could ask the same question but every suggestion said so far I have, and completed.

It also depends on your hardware setup, I mean do you want to get something on Windows, Playstation, Xbox or Wii?

There's so many games for each platform.
Off hand I'd say the game list you've given sounds like Windows/Playstation 2.

Which I'd recommend Final Fantasy XI, Psychonauts, Jakk-Series, Battlefront 2, etc. I mean you've left the selection wide open.

I would say though, if you have a fairly powerful graphic cards.. Chronicles of Riddick is awesome. I got it free with the 6200 Ultra I bought last year.. kepts saying it didn't have OpenGL 1.3 and couldn't play on that so, when I got an X1600 a week later booted it up and it ran gorgeously. Usually the free games with cards I get, I'll play out of curiosity; then never touch again.

Chronicles is quite different though, it feels so involving. Has quite a dark storyline as you'd expect. The only thing that imo let it down was the damn thing was too short
It wasn't literally too short like Tomb Raider Legend (5hrs to complete), but felt it. Took me about 8-9hrs in the end, but it's awesome using the back triggers to block or punch with each arm.. or sneak up behind an unsuspecting guard, snap his neck then use his gun to take out everyone else. There's some quite inventive weapons there too. Not going to say "you can use anything" because you can't, but you can pick-up bars, or most objects that are laying on the ground to use as weapons.

The game ends where the Chronicles of Riddick movies begins. totally awesome.
