Hi Guys,
I've Just upgraded my computer to a Intel 3.2ghz dual core. After I bought the dual core i found a 1.8ghz core 2 duo for just 20$ more.
I read a forum post on another website and it said that a 1.8ghz core 2 duo is faster than a 3.4ghz dual core. Is this true? When i read this, I was furious with my upgrade.

I am now broke and don't know what to do with my upgrade.
Should I sell my processor on eBay or do something else? I seriously want my computer to perform at full capacity.

If you have any ideas I would like to know them.
I would also like to know which is best for quality and cost. If I do sell my dual core processor I will only have that money to buy a core 2 duo.

Please help me.
Thanks
Xarshi

being a little specific on the 3.2 GHz dual core name would be great, because just the GHz alone does not tell much.

Yes, the Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz will at stock out-perform a Pentium D 3.2GHz

What's possibly more impressive is that the Core 2 Duo with it's standard fan&heatsink will happily overclock to 2.7GHz (3.3GHz with water-cooling) and give some pretty unbelievable performance.

Ok yeah, sorry to say, kinda a bad move. I thought that the GHz had everything to do on how much better it is,but any core 2 duo is better than any pentium d. Don't get me wrong though, the pentium d's are still decent.

Like i keep telling people for years the Pentium M architecture clocks slower, runs cooler/quiter, but is faster

You cannot compare CPU perfomance with MHz you need to use MIPs or something.

Core2Duo is their new line, I think they are basically dropping the Pentiums after Pentium D - certainly they aren't the flagship any more.

It's always better to pay for a decent processor. Whenever you see a cheap home PC with a 3GHz processor, it'll always be something crap like a Celeron.

Celerons were the Pentium 4s that they broke halfway through production, and then sort of patched up.

I heard about that actually, same with GPUs etc. they just use the ones which don't pass the full QA tests for the top model as a lesser or cut down model

I used to be really in on this topic, but I haven't been educating my self, so now I am stuck with a GX270 w/ 2.8 P4 that really doesn't clock 2.8, it clocks 2.7. I also used to thing that the GHz/MHz was everything. Man was I wrong...

So the difference:
Dual Core - has two cores
Core2Duo - has four cores---I don't get it, I heard of the quad, and thought that had 4 cores, but...

Educate me...

core 2 extremes have quad cores. Core 2 DUO's have two cores. Also core 2 quads have 4 cores, but core 2 extremes are better than core 2 quads. So here we go:

Core 2 Extreme - Quad Core
Core 2 Quad - Quad Core
Core 2 Duo - Dual Core

The names after the c2d confuse me... its like,qe6600 or something, and xq6800. They have wierd names... I can't wait for octo core names...

Core 2's are also extremely efficient, especially compared to Pentium D. I've got a 1.8ghz core 2 that blows away my previous p4 3.2ghz, and making the replacement cut my power usage almost in half.

lol I also heard the 2.1ghz core 2 duo's over clock like crazy.
Should have spent a bit more time to read on the reviews and find what would be best for my computer.

I don't know what to do now.
Should I sell it and get a core 2 duo Instead?
I don't think it'll make enough money selling it though.

Well thanks for informing me that I've got a pretty decent piece of crap.lol

thanks
