Quality game. Loved it. Music was bad ass. Absolute rubbish to play today though!

Quote: "Indianapolis 500 by Papyrus. Loved that game to death."

Yeah, I played that loads too. I'm not a fan of oval racing, but I remember the physics and instant replay feature made that amazing. Couldn't you make your own replays aswell? I can't remember. That could've been NASCAR, but I remember loving indi500.

Most memorable games for me:

-Ultima Underworld 2 - Made me crap my pants, awe inspiring characters and worlds, and really gripping story. Great stuff.

-UFO: Enemy Unknown - Still the greatest game of all time in my opinion. I can still play it now (although it's a bit lame). But anything that old that still retains some playability is a classic.

Like Jeku said. Sierra kicked derrier.

also Grim Fandango was amazing.

Oh and Stunt car racer and knights of the sky with the amiga null modem cable was life changing as we would get completly trollyed and take it far too seriously

and also sensi soccer we used to have league nights where about 15 of us would be crammed into my folks utility room, everyone would bring there fav joysticks ( it sounds a bit dodgy I know) but it was such a laugh (wipes away tear) . Ah those were the days.
I still wonder about what brain damage that calor gas fire did to this day.

Am I the only one who found E.T. entertaining. While I admit that the controls and documentation were utterly frustrating, I found the game playable and not as dissapointing as other titles.

E.T. for the commodore64 was acutually the game I wanted.

The original Pac-Man was more of a dissapointment to me, given the hype and the arcade experience.

I found the Sword Quest games more confusing and unsatisfying, albeit ambitous.

Every game changed me.

I think that M.U.L.E. changed a lot of minds as to what gaming could be.

And yes Elite and Frontier must be mentioned as being highly influential.

In 1986 I bought (and still have) GRIDIRON and the original MADDEN Football.
To me GRIDIRON was more than 10 times better than MADDEN.

But I think my favorites were STARGLIDER and STARGLIDER 2.

I'm unique, just like everybody else.

That one never clicked with me. I played almost all the LucasArts comedy adventure games, and loved so many of them (Sam and Max, DOTT, Full Throttle, The Dig, Monkey Island, etc.). I have Grim Fandango and played through the first half hour--- just didn't like the controls or the storyline.

Yeah, I remember Outcast. Didn't really like it, so didn't complete it, but I remember it got some awards so it probably was pretty good.

Outcast was brilliant. It was actually done with voxels, not polygons. One of the last games to try it, before all the hardware went the polygon route...

What is "Sacrifice"?

Oh and let's not forget the Theif series - that was a game that defined a new genre - stealth FPS.

That's the problem . No-one knows about it but it deserved to sell loads. It had a great story, a gameplay style I've never seen before or since.... google it, I can't be bothered to explain .

It was a kind of RTS but you were in direct control of the commander on the battlefield and ran around with him... it was good actually, the whole thing was told in flashback.

I think you challenged different gods in turn for each campaign.

Yep. Mainly because I tried everything to get it to work and it never did. And I forgot to take it back to the shop. Still here somewhere. Should fire it up sometime...

Cheers

Quote: "Someone's got to list Super Mario 64, as one of the pioneering games of the 3D age. This game showed the industry how to properly design a 3D world and how to give complete control to the player via the analogue stick and in-game camera. Nothing like this had ever been done before."

I hope Super Mario Galaxy will be the same way. With the innovative Wiimote, Nintendo's going to revolutionize the gaming industy...again.

Urban Assault was quite fun. Never got much attention because it didn't.

Savage is fun too, BTW - for free nowadays. RTS meets RPG meets FPS meets prehistoric weaponry meets machine guns meets Lord of the Rings. But then rather balanced.
