I've got a £100 budget to buy some books for my MSc project in Securing Massive Multiplayer Online Games and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I was thinking of the following..

1) Massively Multiplayer Game Development: v. 2
2) Practical Grid Computing for Massively Multiplayer Games
3) Applied Cryptography: Protocols, Algorithms and Source Code in C
4) Game programming Gems (I can't afford all 6 so i was thinking book 6 the latest one?)

can anyone recommend anything else, read any of the above/give a review?

any articles/web pages anyone can recommend also welcome

Game Programming Gems are great books, but they're all completely different. As far as I remember, each book covers similar topic areas (network, graphics, AI etc.) but has new 'gems' each time. So they're not the way to go if you want a book on one particular subject, and you really need all of them to get all the cool 'gems' at your disposal.

The wierd thing about the Game Programming Gems books is that they are all written by different people! If you could only pick one which would you pick as best?
