Sprites follow an entity-

If I have a character entity moving around I would like to have an sprite be place on top of the entity and follow it around the screen.

Is this possible, how can I do this?

I've never used sprites, but here is just a guess, set a waypoint for the sprite and for the enemy, or whatever, if you can't add a waypoint for sprites than this won't work, push enter to make the sprite so above the enemy, then make sure they are set at the same speed, if a sprite has a speed setting that is, and then make both of there waypoints do the same thing, this is just a guess, I'm not saying it works.

I'de accually be intrested in something like this too. Possibilities would be endless, but it would somehow have to be attatched to the character, not via waypoint

Well if you can't do it no-one can...

But it would be awesome.

Imagine ghouls with blood dripping from their mouths...

I'm not sick... no really... umm... ok maybe a little .

Try a decal. You'll have to setup their FPE (which characters currently use for the muzzleflash - that could be an issue) and then have a script with rundecal = #. I tried to do this with barrels that caught fire - they could catch fire, making them explode HL2 style was another story.

That's what I want to do, like have a decal follow the characters, like have a character on fire or have electricity decal follow it so he is like electric, the possibilities are endless. Id be interested in if someone can do it, I think it would be a brilliant addition to fps creator and make some really cool effects be able to take place.

Airslide barrels, I remember that post, checked your posts cant seem to find it.

Quote: "character on fire "

indeed that is exactly the type of effect, heck you can make a cyborg with malfuntioning sparks, an attack vehicle with exhaust fumes, or a villager with a torch, I could go on and on.

Im no scripter, that is a talent all unto its own, and sadly I lack it. I have Ideas an the will to implement them but no knowlage to get the nuts and bolts going. Perhaps this is best to be moved to the script forums where the real magic happens.

EDIT-@Airslide - could you elaborate and use a character as a reference? This would seriously rock!

Decals on enemies won't work. Or at least not very well.

If you center the decal so that it intersects the enemy -+- (- Being the decal and + being the enemy) Then the middle bit would be cut off. The only way to do it would be to make the decal orbit the entity so it's always in front of it , to make it move in a circular motion (not spin round like it would normally do) so that it always appears in front of them. then there's the problem of coming between the character and the decal, distance between them etc etc.

Basically that means that it would require beaucoup scripting.

Your signature has been deleted due to the fact that it was far too humourous to possibly show.

i mean more positionable and accually attatched to the character so when the enemy moves the fire moves , like a flaming zombie
or ghost rider for that matter, lol

this may help a bit

from here
Code Snippets / Putting decals on objects in fps (DBPro)

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=80924&b=6

Also having a decals be an entities is helpfull as well, you could then have fire or smoke monsters etc. Have smoke or mist follow the character around etc, lots of things to do if decals can be entities.

mods this thread still needs putting in the code section of fpsc.
