I wanna know the dirty bastard who hired a hitman to destroy me. I got this e-mail:

Quote: "Good Day Alan,

I want you to read this message very carefully, and keep the secret with you till further notice. You have no need of knowing who I am, where I am from, till I make out a space for us to see. I am being paid $100,000 in advance to terminate you with some reasons listed to me by my employer, its one I believe you call a friend, I have followed you closely for one week and three days now. Do not try to contact the police or the F.B.I. or try to send a copy of this to them. Because if you do I will know, and might be pushed to do what I was being paid to do, besides this is the first time I turned out to be a betrayer in my job.

Now listen, I will arrange for us to see face to face but before that I need the amount of $70,000 and you will have nothing to be afraid of. I am coming to see you at your house. Do not set any camera to cover us, or set up any tape to record our conversation, my employer is in my control now. After the meeting you must pay another $70,000. I will then give you the tape of my employer requesting my service. You may then take him to court if you wish to do so. If you do not pay me the money in 20 days you will be terminated.

You do not need my phone number for now intill I am assured you are ready to comply good."

If you really did get that email, I would print it out and show your local police, give them this guys email too. Its not funny to threaten to kill some one, even if it is a joke.

But I have never heard of a hitman emailing someone, to tell them they are going to get whacked. They would normally just kill you without warning, well that's what I would do

But if you want this guy prosecuted, show your local police and see if they will do any thing.

Yeah, if you took the time to post it here, and "the hitman" hasn't gotten you yet, you shoud probably take it to the police... Chances are it's just a dork doing this for fun, hoping he'll earn 140,000$ out of it, but you never know.

lol the email sounds like a scam, he is offering alanc his life for $40k more than he is being paid to end it. Take it to the police with the details of the sender etc. The part that make it sound more like a scam is he is asking for less than the 100k price at the first meeting, he is setting it lower in an attempt to make you more likely to pay it. If you did he would not return for the second meeting, (because there is no tape of him and this mysterious employer) and he will have made 70k off a phony claim.

edit: oh and unless you are some high profile person they could have hired someone a LOT cheaper to do the job. not that I know that

Make sure you print out the long headers of the email and not just the content and address.

http://antivirus.about.com/od/emailscams/a/hitmanemail.htm

is one of the MANY sites which tell you about this scam, in fact if you click the link to read a copy of the email you'll see yours there almost word for word... definitely go to the police... right now, get off your computer and go... do it

So, a contract killer is paid $100k to kill you, and assuming he is good at what he does then he can do it with nothing to point at him. Instead he decides to get paid a bit more and risk everything by contacting you (getting detected by the police *and* getting hit himself for not carrying out his orders). Aha. Out of interest are you a well paid business man by any chance? Seen a murder? Dad is a high court judge? Just wondering why anyone would take a $100k hit out on you when they could probably get the same results from a $1k moron from the local biker bar (been watching too many films I know). Are you the don of the local Mafia gang?

What would be good is if the US government then treats this scam like terrorism suspects. Which it pretty much could be. Best check to be sure. So then Homeland gets on the case and sends the t**t to Gitmo Infact why not actually phone the FBI acting all worried? At the very least get some jail time for him for wasting police time.

Bit of a bummer though if someone got a real email like this and it was put in their junk folder...

Cheers

There is a very funny website called "419 Eater" which makes fun of these scammers... Also "scambuster 419" which had me in tears of laughter... You should all check them both out, particularly scambuster

Question 1: Why would anyone want to kill you?
Question 2: Is this a real hitman? I thougth hitmen are supposed to be dedicated to the job and they generally do a much better job of writing warning e-mails - which they don't actually.

Yep, thats what I said above. I'm personally going for the suggestion that AlanC is a Don of some kind...

Quote: "Is this a real hitman?"
Nope. Unless his plan is to scare him to death through straight-to-junk-folder SPAM...

It's likely to be a scam - I would call the police, I'm sorry but sending people emails like that is just sick - expose the loser; I mean it sounds very convincing - to prove his worth ask questions about you he should know. I've had one of these type scams before, but they usually just try to get sympathy by pretending they've lost things in war that can be recieve through your account and they'll pay you a lot of money...but this attempt, sorry I think that's sick.

I don't think the guy really wanted to send you this email. I'm sure he has got a sort of malware on his computer that send this kind of emails to his contacts list. I think calling the police is a bit useless.

How is it someone has the reasoning to even think they could get away with this scam? It boggles the mind.

It doesn't matter. I watched a program that investigated all these phone call scams (You may already have won a *massive* yacht!). Basically it doesn't matter that the vast majority of the public dismiss them without a moments notice; all it takes is a few suckers and there is your monthly pay packet. When you are hitting thousands of people every month then that is quite a few suckers. It was sad when they said it was mainly old people who fall for it, thinking this a way out of their financial problems. My Dad almost fell for a Spanish lottery one even after I had drummed into him about how to ignore anything on emails that wasn't from me or checked by me (really can't trust my dad with anything). He actually phoned them up to double check because he "has already won 300k in Euros!!!!". Again, a few thousand double checking by phone will net them a nice monthly pay out. Scum...

What was funny though was the original quote was "He can't even spell Untill". Thats why I said "That's a joke right?"

I would let it go anyway, what if it was just a little kid playing around being stupid? Would it not be a little sad if a twelve year old boy was arrested just because him and his friend one day decided to be a little funny and send somone a stupid email?

P.S. I think you should just leave this one alone, but if they continue, then you should call the police.
