That looks like a good monitor. Most all the LCDs are pretty good now, so I wouldn't worry too much about which one to get. If it has good reviews, and is a decent price, I'd say go for it. Just a personal thing, but I'd go for at least a 20" just because I like higher resolution.

I have a Samsung 20", and I've really enjoyed it. It's gone down in price about $200 since I bought it.

Good performance is better than a good excuse.

I recently bought the one in the link above and have loved it ever since I first plugged it in! It's cheaper in price than the Samsung line of screens and the monitor is pretty much flawless IMO. It was a huge size and quality upgrade from a 17" CRT. Believe me once you get an LCD, you'll never want to go back to CRT.

Make sure you look at the Dead Pixel warrenty.

I don't think there's many manufacturers now who don't replace the monitor for a single dead pixel, but when I got mine, I scrutinized all the warrenties, and sided with a BenQ because of all the possibilities, it was the only one who would swap it out for a single dead pixel.

[EDIT]
And, personally, I wouldn't for a wide-screen. It ends up stretching everything wider, and its only real use is for movies.
You don't want text stretching further left/right, you don't want games all squished, you don't want massive blank areas left/right when editing in word, etc...

UnderLord, I know its not the site you want to buy from, but I thought I would let you know about this little monitor. I bought one of these a while back and it gave me great performance, the only thing that sets it back, is the 1024x768 max resolution.

Thanks for the input guys =)

I think I'll go with the 19" as it has the best refresh rate and contrast ratio for the money (I think) I looked at everyone else's and for 209USD the contrast ratio can't be beat.

I originally wanted the 22" samsung wide screen, but money is not permitting as i also have in my cart a opteron dual core processor and a 768mb 8800GTX

For the last 3 years i'v been using and playing computer games on a CRT that has 2 dead lines in it right in the center of the screen...one dead pixel isnt gonna kill me....however still a very good idea Jess =)

I play all my games at 1280x1024 so i think it should beable to preform at that resolutions right? Maybe one day I'll play at 1600x1200 like everyone else =P

So you could actually afford a cinema if your cart was empty

I've looked at a ton of Samsungs and they got really nice pictures. The only downside is their horrible, horrible vertical viewing angle. Unless you're looking at it directly at eye level, you probably won't see anything.

This is the one I've been considering. Now the one I saw in the actual store was over $600 and I'm pretty sure it had a 5ms response time and not an 8 like this one says. But the picture is amazing and was the only monitor that appeared to get brighter the further I stood back from it.

Highly doubt it, I haven't seen an LCD that looks as good as a nice CRT unless its well over $1k. I have a new LCD at work and I can't stand looking at it. It's so refreshing to come home and look at my 50lb viewsonic

I have a 17" Samsung syncmaster , sitting above my Hansol 19" Crt. The picture is fine, although admittedly it is tilted slightly forwards.

I thought the same thing.
I've been using a 17" HP for years.
I bought a 19" off brand LCD and returned it because of defects.
I also thought it was a bit too large for my comfort.
I am now using a HP vs17e and it is GREAT.
Much bigger than the 17" HP CRT, it is just right sized.
When I have to use that HP CRT (@72Hz) now I am shocked to see how much it sucks compared to the HP LCD display.

I'm unique, just like everybody else.

I was a CRT obsessed individual for awhile as well, but everytime I go to my friends house I look at his 21" CRT, and the colors are so dull, the monitor is huge. I just don't even want to think about having something so giant on my desk anymore. Also, if you don't get a flatscreen CRT you also have a distorted rounded out view which is really annoying.

I had a LCD for a few weeks and sold it to a friend (i bought it off a old boss of mine) because it seemed to hurt my eyes looking at it in the dark. So i went back to my old 17" CRT, i play CS:S competivly so a CRT is good because i have no refresh time, but recently taking my CRT to lans has become more of a pain then i feel i gain from having it, so i figured i'd get a nice LCD. The LCD i want only has a 1440x900 max res. So it looks like i'll learn to play CS:S at that res. unless someone can find me a decently priced LCD thats 19" (WIDE screen or not) that can do above 1440x900 and is below 210USD with a 2000:1 contrast ratio.

Viewsonic makes some good lcd's with fast refresh rates. The one I have (VX 924) is a 19" with 3ms refresh. No dead pixels, great color and brightness, and runs in 1280x1024. I have no complaints so far (I have had it for almost 2 years).

You're not supposed to look at any kind of screen in the dark, it's apparently bad for your eyes.

I vote with Cattlerustler on Viewsonic. I have the one he has, which I use atop my midi-piano. I also have a 22" Viewsonic which I use on my desk for DPP programming, internet, etc. I got it new for $250 at a local store of a national US chain (called Best Buy) a few months ago, and I swear by it. I think you should see who might be carrying it wherever you are, and check it out at the store. I NEVER buy a monitor or TV online unless I have taken a darn good look at it working in a store. Monitor size is a big issue with me, because I'm fairly old and getting farsighted.

my last one was a del 22 inch widescreen with extended same day return policy for 5 years.
I paid $499 AUD and $50 to extend the warranty out to another 2 years, including dead pixels etc.
Looking at the site it suggests something around $329 US. with 3 year warranty.
I would never buy a dell computer for myself unless I was outsourcing something for a business etc. however that monitor is not too shabby for its price and warranty.
