Hi I've always used JPEG, PNG or BMP file formats for my texture/screens, so I've like to know what is the big advantage of using DDS files!

..I'm asking this because I'm using a plugin in photoshop to export to DDS and it appears lots of mipmaps, but it only saves one file, so I believe that those mipmaps are "stored" on one DDS, so my question is if those mipmaps are called automatically by the engine?

EDIT:
..but I'm only supposing, so would be great to first understand the advantages of DDS

you might want to ask this in the dbpro forum, this area is more geared towards dgk specific issues. youll probably get more replies out there
