Does anyone know of any free program that takes video files and converts them into files that can be used to make a DVD? Preferably with no watermarks or random words about the converter appearing.

Like a backup?

Well altough it's legal to make backups (In any reasonable country atleast), i don't think it should be discussed here because of the connection this has to piracy. There was talk about torrents before (which are perfectly legal aswell), but torrents have a bad reputaion because of the piracy so the thread was locked.

I'm scared so i'll just stay on the sideline here and watch how this unfolds.

No I want to burn this video I found, its not pirated but public and legal, its called War of the Servers and I thought it was really good so I thought it would be neat to have it on DVD so I could watch it on my T.V. they even give you a DVD cover to put in the case. Check it out, its 80 mins long but its really well made.

Thanks IanM it was what I was looking for but for some reason it would not let me add the audio from the clip to it. So im going to try an combine the two and see if that works.

Burning to DVD shouldn't be a problem as there are several free burning packages out there. The problem lies in encoding the video into DVD format. The real Mpeg2 codec used for Video DVDs is not free so software publishers (even the freeware ones as far as I know) would still have to pay if they include the codec with their software. This means that free DVD Video creators are difficult to put together.
I think DVD Flick uses FFMpeg for its encoding/decoding. Its possible it relies on an Mpeg2 codec already being installed on your machine or perhaps uses a third party codec which happens to be compatible with Mpeg2 and DVD. Its the only way I think they can work 'legally'.

so does anyone know why when I convert it, about two minuets through it goes silent? Because I played the ISO and it did that but the original file does not. Its confusing.
