Seriously agreed. One just has to watch the last half of Titanic to see his brilliance. Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, etc.
But between Spielberg and Scott, I'd have to say Scott. I can't stand a majority of Spielberg's movies as he always throws family, Hollywood-style endings into the otherwise good movies. Look at A.I., a great movie--- until the happy touchy feely ending. Kubrick was turning in his grave, let me tell you. Scott on the other hand does amazingly bleak movies that are more realistic in the sense--- he even did that cool Apple commercial from the early 80s (with the woman running down the middle of a theatre and destroying the IBM overlord
