Hey all... I semi-recently (5 months ago?) bought a nVidia GeForce FX 5500 256 mb video card for about 50 dollars.

I'm in the process of building a PC online and ordering it from the HP site. The only cards they have to offer are

Integrated Intel(R) 950
64MB NVIDIA GeForce 7300LE
128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8300GS, DVI-I, TV-out, VGA

and I'm kind of feeling the 8300. But its 70 dollars for half the MB. I remember hearing that the MB count doesnt have every thing to do with it and the model numbers (5500 vs 8300) have a lot to do with it.

Basically im wondering if I'm getting ripped off paying 70 dollars for something i already have thats twice as good. if thats the case ill just use my 5500 in my new computer. Which brings me to my second question.... if i order the integrated intel will i still be able to upgrade my video via agp/pci/pci-e slots or is it like soldered into the motherboard and even if i put in a better card it will default to that?

Thanks all for the help!!

If I was you, I'd just stick to the 5500. It's a good card! I have one myself. People underestimate it and honestly, you probably won't need anything a ton better for a couple years. I can run NFS: Carbon on maximum settings on 1280x1024 and it runs beautifully (until 20 cops are chasing you).

As for the intel, to my knowledge, that is soldered onto the motherboard. But I could be wrong. Hope I helped a little!

I had an integrated video card, but i still upgraded using an empty PCI slot. You just need to tell it which card to use in the BIOS I think...

...i am building my own pc.... I'm just having someone else assemble it for me since its probably cheaper than buying all the components seperatly, and plus... this way im gaurenteed that all the hardware was compatible with each other.

My question about the integrated chip was its free with the computer, so should I pay extra for a card i wont use (in order to keep them from putting in the integrated chip) or should I let them put the chip in and then just use my current nvidia card.

short and long of it is, im not going to use the integrated chip anyway, and if I have them put it in (since its cheaper) than can I just put in my nvidia since its 256. I dont want to pay 70 bucks for something I already have (and have twice as much of) but I think i might have to if the integrated chip will really cause problems
