Hi all,

I've been itching to get a new notebook for ages, and my eyes have finally settled on a reasonably-priced HP. The HP Pavilion dv9500t. I've customized it to have these specs:

-----o Vista Home Premuim
-----o 17" widescreen display
-----o Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.00 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
-----o 2GB RAM
-----o nVidia GeForce 8600M GS (256 MB dedicated, 667 MB shared)
-----o uber fingerprint reader
-----o Wireless network connection
-----o 160 GB Storage (5400 RPM)
-----o 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer support
-----o 8 Cell Lithium Ion battery
-----o MS Works 8.0 pre-installed

All this for $1,349.99! Now, the only reason (or rather the main reason) I'm getting this is for gaming. Not the latest and greatest, but I want to be able to run modern games/apps with a decent speed. More specifically DBPro and FPSC x10. So do you think this will suit my needs?

Thanks in advance,
G2L

Pretty nice laptop. I'm not sure about the prices overseas, but that's a very respectable price here.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't tend to think of Laptops as gaming machines really. You're very limited when it comes to upgrading - which IMO is fairly essential every year or so to stay on top of the latest games. Whilst it's boasting really nice specs, I like the freedom to upgrade anything and everything which a laptop doesn't really offer.

The long and short, it's a fairly nice graphics card in there, and the CPU, RAM and HD capacity are more than enough.

@Nemesis: As I said, I wasn't hoping for the notebook to cope well with the 'latest and greatest'. I'll wait a few months, to see if the prices drop a tad, and then buy it. Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else have any comments/suggestions?

Have a look at this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220163

I got it about 3 weeks ago and its amazing! The thing is great with games, and thats without the 2gb upgrade that most people are getting for it.

@SageTech: Thanks for the link. It has almost the exact same specs as the HP I was looking at, save for the size of the monitor (15" vs 17") and the fingerprint reader. So seeing as the specs are very close, the HP will most probably work clean with my gaming needs.

That said, more suggestions are always welcome!
