Science has merged with shallow materialism...Though scientists in terms of philosophy tend to be materialists (not always), but jeez, not in the sense of creating the best bum. Though I suppose science is responsible for most cosmetics out there - so I suppose the vanity and self obsessed materialistic people of society will benefit by going over the top about their arse as well as grey hair, wrinkles, impure skin, fat, boob size etc.
