When comparing GTA vice city and GTA San Andreas - the 2 seem so similar so *is* bigger better? I heard GTA SA is 4-6 times bigger and longer than GTA vice city?

Please post your opinions on this question:
Is GTA SA better than GTA VC?

In this instance, definitely. Of course they're similar, but so are Coke and Pepsi. I'd have a hard time naming any sequel to any game in history that wasn't equally similar. San Andreas has more missions, more vehicles, a better soundtrack (imo anyway), and the sort of map you can literally get lost in while exploring. I'm a fan of massive playing areas... there's no such thing as a map that's too big. If it takes me an hour to walk or drive from one side of a map to the other, I'm in love with the game. Most people are... well... lazy, lol, and don't like big maps because they don't want to "waste time" traversing the playable area.

So anyway, back on topic, yes, San Andreas beats the pants off Vice City. The superiority reigns down from a plethora of missions, character and vehicle modifications, a variety of objects to use, and a story that is far better written than the predecessor. It has multiplayer (on the PS2 anyway)... imo, there's no comparison: San Andreas rocks .

That's why I love the pc version. There are mods for it to play with other people online. You just mod your version1 game. and walla. It even has a downgrader for the people who have the version without the "hot coffee" thing.

But I'd say the big size of SA makes it one of my most frequently played games. There are still hidden things I haven't seen in the map. Makes it worth playing until you know every object on the place like the back of your hand. Then you might want to go outside and learn about the real world.

your topic title sounded a bit odd at first...

but anyways, I don't like either one. Go for 3.

GTA:SA, if only for the story and map size. SA felt as a more complete game to me.

GTA:San Andreas is better for a simple reason, it's the first GTA3 that is actually controllable. It's the only one I actually like tbh, but then again the issue I have is it's too big.

I played for about 40hrs total on it, and honestly the storyline started to get boring; and really it still doesn't feel like a real GTA as it relies to much on a storyline to push it along.

Personally wish they'd go back to the whole aspect of "mission based" storylines. So rather than one HUGE story, it's made up of several hundred mini-stories. So there's no real "completion" more just you do what you want to, when you want to, how you want to.

I preferred Vice City to be honest, but that's because I liked the old retro feel - 80's clothing and music rocks! I can see how a larger map size can be a downfall to a game, traveling long distances to get to a certain part of the map can become very tedious if the method of transport is boring. However, in the GTA games, driving fast cars just so happens to be fun so the point is void, on the other hand, if I had to walk that distance in-game, I wouldn't bother.

San Andreas for me every time. The start of the game especially, when your a hood working your way up, that just felt like a 90's movie like Boyz in the Hood. The music was great too, besides the expected gangster rap we had Faith No More blaring through the radios, what more could you want!. The introduction of bicycles was great too, and the Sanchez - I spent more than 40 hours just trying to beat my wheelie records and do mad jumps.

Ohh and the parachute! - get a bicycle up on a roof and jump off and parachute down.

Ohh and the casino's were cool as well.

Yeah GTA:SA had a lot in it, even the 2-player mini game thing was pretty cool. I'm just itching for a 360 GTA now, should be some serious gameplay in that. Imagine if they do what Crackdown does with the game hosting, even playing with 3 other players would rock.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...

But so far it seems that SA is better than VC and I think I agree (from this and from reading all those reviews) so I'm going to purchase it for this summer.

Thank-you so much for the help my friends

Happy coding,

i loved VC when it came out, played it until my fingers bled but i mean, once i played SA i couldnt go back to it, felt too restricted, i think the bigger the map, the more freedom you have and the better the game. Dont get me wrong ,VC holds more sentiment for me, i love it, but SA i prefer as a game

You know there are packs for the PS2 that have Liberty City (GTA3) all the way to liberty city stores and vice city stories. It's like a pack of all the games that have been released for the ps2. It's not that badly priced. At least, I found it at Walmart which doesn't always have bad prices. So if you want, that would keep you entertained forever.

I agree, those packs are the way to go. You can have the best of both worlds for slightly extra

Is there a PC demo for either one?

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

I don't think they have demos for either of them (or at least I've never seen them). But yeah, you might be best off with the PC versions (if your PC can handle it) because of what Dabip mentions regarding modding the game. Multitheft Auto is awesome . I'm hoping GTA4 has multiplayer on its PS3 and 360 versions. Especially with what I'm assuming will be a smaller map than SA has. It makes me re-assert my previously-mentioned (in other threads) wish: There needs to be a GTA MMO
