I'm looking to upgrade the sound in my car, but I'm not the biggest expert on car audio. I need two 10's or 12's and an amp to power them, looking for around 600watts on the amp perhaps. I think I've decided to place Alpines 6.5" in the front doors, I've used them before and was quite satisfied. I currently have an 8 speaker system of Infinity, and am not pleased in their bass response at all.(and thats using the stock radio)

Basically, which brands should I consider? More than likely, I'll be using a Clarion head unit, either my old one or a new one. I've heard Lanzar makes good amps, but if you have to get the right model or its a piece of crap.

I think Vibe give you the best bang for the buck. They do some sick enclosures. They're not top of the range, but they have some monster output for the price.

I've got a 12" sub and 800RMS amp under my bed, but I can't put it in my Skyline because apparently deep bass interferes with the hicas system (rear wheel steering), which you DO NOT want at 100mph on the motorway.

I think I've decided to go with Alpine subs and amp. Alpine has redesigned their subs and I was looking at a new 12" type S model. Probably sunday, I'm gonna call this guy at BestBuy about a custom enclosure. I never knew they did custom boxes, and the guy who told me about it said its not much more than a standard box.

Cool. If you can get one that fits around any wheel arches etc. it look at lot better and saves space. For really popular makes of car in the UK (the ones barry boys generally rude up with stereos - so Golf GTIs and Civic etc) a lot of companies already have custom fit ones.

Anyway, hope it sounds good.

I looked for a pre-existing custom-fit box for my car, didn't find any. I have a chrysler 300m. I just ordered two Alpine SWS-1243D. For an extra $50/pair, I could've gotten the R-type, but the S-type sounded better when I compared the 6.5" cones in the store. I picked up the pair for only $160, major deal! Spending hours shopping around really does pay off.
If I get the custom box, I'll post a pic when its all done.
