This almost succesfully happened once.. but that was only because the guy that started basically did everything, and had people give him snippets, which he had to integrate in. Unless you can do that or find someone who is willing and able, then you wont be able to pull this off.

Well, looking at the source code in your "My First Little Game", I think you should progress a little bit slower, besides, when it comes to wrestling games you need to worry about modelling and animation alot, which isn't handy.

Besides, if you could do it, why make it a comminity project?

Well, I guess this is a good way. You'll learn that everyone either says "Start way lower", or "Nobody's gonna join you unless you start it yourself and make some progress", or even "Search. You'll find plenty of other failed requests like this"... Everything there is true.

I agree with the piece of toast
Wrestling is especially complicated (and a little gay)
why do you thing RPGs use swords and spells instead or hand-to-hand combat? Because its damn difficult!
I thought you were making a 2D RPG??

lol, yeah I have: The Godfather, Hitman, Card Games, A Gangster Game and a couple others on the go. But I'm concentrating on The Godfather for now, it's looking the most promising.

You don't wanna spread your work out so much or it'll be ages before you see any results. I know what it's like, you start one project and that gets you thinking about other ideas for new projects lol.

YYAAAAAAAAH! I have animation shop!!! cool, I'm gonna mess around with it a bit.

[EDIT]
OK I think first we should make all the visual stuff that we're gonna need.
We need a menu, HUD, levels, backdrops and of course characters.
Before we start making them though we have to agree on what they need to do.

# Menu - buttons that animate in some way. Enclosed in a gosub so that we can have a pause function too.
# HUD - you're gonna have to work this out, I can't remember what we need to keep track of: we could have bars for HP, Magic, Stamina etc and we could have a time limit if we want and enemy HP.
#Levels - what the characters will be standing on. We could make two layers and only have the characters collide with one (that way we could have objects that you can walk past). Needs to be a scrolling level.
#Backdrops - smooth scrolling and subtle.
#Characters - We could stick to the Man, Woman, Dwarf unless you have any good ideas? Characters are probably the hardest part to do, what animations do we need? I would like to make those skeleton warriors that come out of the ground lol.

Tell me what you think and add any suggestions .
I'm gonna see what animation shop can do

Warcraft is an MMO with over 7mil people... Made in a very flexible (and fast) language like C++... took millions of lines of code... thousands of lines of scripting... hundreds of models etc.

This is DBC. Please, I dont mean to offend, but... yeah...

I'll try to get some code up on the tread later...
edit)
We could have the original characters,plus a few of our own, and
a character-maker!!
Lets also try to keep the code as condensed as possible(my prossesor sucks).
lets have the enemy HP over there heads.(if they have one)
I already have a button function! let just modify it.
we could make stuff for the HUD in paint and load them as sprites.
post animation shop here
could you handle the levels?
Not magic - Psyenergy!
AND NO TIME LIMIT!
below is a charcater i drew
dont view the pic here- download it and view it normally.

Your image doesnt need to be that big (unless there was something at the top that I lost?) I like your character though.

Sorry I jumped the gun a bit there, first we need a setting and a story.

How about setting it in medieval Europe? We could have horses you can ride and different types of armour and weapons. They could go on some quest to bring something back to Camelot etc lol.
What do you reckon?

I think for the first part of the game it should be totally "real" without any magic or dragons, and then as they get further into the game things like dragons start appearing. We could have safe towns without any dragons that you can walk around and buy stuff, have your armour/weapons repaired and feed your horses. That'd be cool.

What do you mean by character maker? Customize the character's appearance (give him a beard etc lol)?
I think the character maker would be totally separate.
If your drawing skills are anything like mine the graphics aren't gonna be too good for this game, but if it works it will still be awesome. Although I'm extremely pleased with my Godfather pic I don't think I could do the same standard for an animated character.

what resolution are we gonna work in 1024x768?

OK, my idea of the game so far is that you play as a group of warriors in medieval times.
I would like a map of "Europe" with towns dotted about that you can travel to, some towns are safe and some are at war but once all enemies are defeated in a warring town that too becomes safe. In a safe town you can buy weapons, armor, horses and food. These safe towns may hold sub-quests but I'll leave that for now.
The aim of the game could either be to kill an evil king or to rescue someone or some holy object. Although I think this should be a linear game, I'd like to be able to roam around the towns, and when the player wants to, move on to the next "story" town.

It would be cool if the warriors started off on foot with basic weapons and then through the game you could kit them out with all sorts of stuff.

I don't know if it's possible but could we make this a multi player internet game (up to four) and you would each have your own character. That'd kick ass.
I'm starting to get excited about this, it may not all be possible for us to do but there's my view of the game so far.
PS Got any good ideas for the quest story?

Heres what I have so far...
(animations of the characters and other stuff will be playing)
There are (how ever many characters we come up wit) in loyal service to a king (name?) After decades of peace, one Knight choses to betray the king, stealing the (sacred item?), and using it's power to create a skeleton army(or something). he now plans to destroy the kingdom to make room for a new empire. (trio of characters of players choising) Now set out and the game begins. details will be added later.

Quote: "speaking of animations,should they be flipped for the other side or redrawn?"

We could probably get away with just flipping them.

I like the story so far, I think this evil knight should have been good at some point but there was a war waging across the land and he betrayed the king and stole the sacred item and joined with the evil king. Now that the evil king has the item his powers are growing day by day and his evil armies are spreading out from his territory.
I think this adds an interesting part to the game as you could show on the map how far his powers have reached (where the evil armies will attack) and so the longer you take to complete the game the harder it gets.

[EDIT] One problem, we want the knights to start out with only basic equipment, how do we get that in the story?
I spose they could just get mugged at the beggining lol.

Firstly, when you were the last person to post, click on "edit post" under your avatar and put your new message at the end of the old one (put [EDIT] before the new part so that I know it's new). This just saves space .
As for your HP bars, you've done a bit of unnecessary work here; your bar doesn't really suit the medieval setting and when making a bar make the "case" empty, and along side it 1% of the bar, then when we put it in the game we can simply put the bar in the case and scale it to the player's HP you could even make a couple of different colours (like you've done) using the same method. Less work and more accurate too.

I'd say we're doing pretty well here, after only a couple of hours we nearly have a complete concept . Here is my version of the story (you're right they shouldn't get mugged lol)

Story:

The world of Annoma is at war, the most colossal war of all time. The honourable King Thalgomire leads his men from the west province of Erringdale against the evil armies of Kerrandor to the east; ruled by the sly King Visgard.
Until now both sides have been equal to each other, but there has been a grave betrayal. Sir Breggiane, a once loyal knight and servant of King Thalgomire, attacked the King and stole his most sacred possesion, the Lion's Scepter, and defected to the evil King Visgard. Now that Visgard has the Scepter his powers are growing and an evil curse is spreading out across the land.

King Thalgomire, wounded and betrayed, must recover the Lion's Scepter if he is to save Erringdale. The war has been a taxing one, the bodies of once great soldiers lie strewn around the castle, and only a handful remain to protect the Royal Family and the citizens of Erringdale. Thalgomire cannot spare a single knight, and so he selects the three most promising students from Erringdale's knight academy to send on this most imperative mission, to recover the Lion's Scepter...

-------------------

Animations:
I think we should break up the characters into upper and lower body, then we could have them attacking at the same time as running etc.

Each animation needs a front, back and side version.

On Foot
* Walking/Running
* Sword attack (across and back)
* Bow aim/attack low/high
* Spear attack
* Shield low/high
On Horseback
* Sword attack
* Lance attack

and that's just for the characters!

Yeah,that's good! well,jumping ahead a little, shouldn't the game start from the king Thalormire's castle?(Reniveil is a name I came up with for it...) I've drawn a castle and will scan it as soon as I ink it.
