Hi, I'm a new-ish user of dbp and I've been modeling in 3dsmax 5.1 commercial standalone. When I exprot a model to .3ds and try to load object in dbp, the program compiles, but dies immediately upon execution. If I conv3ds.exe the model and then try to load it instead of the .3ds, the model loads fine.

Any idea why this is?

Dbpro doesnt support .3ds, it only supports .x and apparently .md3 and .md2. More formats will be available in the next patch...

I recommend getting the latest version of panda x export plugin(search for it in google or something) and export your models directly to .x cos 3ds is crap.

update to p4.1 which is available at the top, it has in the readme that they've reintroduced 3DS (not tried it though)

also you can find the lastest DirectX Max 5.x Exporter within the DirectX SDK Extra's pack available here

I do have the latest 4.1 patch that is supposed to have .3ds built in, but I'll give both the Panda plugin and the dx sdk util. Thanks!

I'm glad i'm not the only one with probs on mdls and 3ds. Can you imagine when they get all the mdl animations to work? *Salivating*
