I have the terrain in .x format. But the problem is when using entity maker I have no idea what collision to use. I got the terrain into fpsc (using the polygon collision) so I painted it onto my game but when I do a game test the terrain is not there and i fall to my death.

Help please....

Did the terrain appear in the editor?
Did you place it on a segment or did it fall when you went to test?

look at the FPE file and look for the line marked collisionmode or colmode and put the value =1

You don't need to use the entity maker to accomplish this.

Just create a folder called 'terrain' in the following directory path

C:\Program Files\The Game Creators\FPS Creator\Files\entitybank\user\

Then download the attached .fpe and place it in your terrain folder. Then place your .x model file and .tga texture file in the terrain folder ensuring that you reference them correctly in the .fpe (I have named them terrain.x and terrain.tga by default).

The reason your not seeing the model in game is possibly because your texture isn't a .tga which is necessary for FPSC. If it's a .bmp or other you will need to convert it to .tga in a paint program. Also make sure the texture is referenced correctly in your .x file as a .tga

The collisionmode value is already set to 1 in the attached .fpe and you will only need to amend the model and texture reference and adjust the scale value to suit your terrain model.

FPSC will automatically create a .dbo and .dds for your model and texture upon successful import. You'll need to delete these files and re import with amended .fpe settings until it looks how you want it in game.

Hope this helps

I think you may need to place a player marker in the editor and raise this a little above the terrain.
The reason you dont see it and fall is because you are entering the game below the terrain.

ok I fixed that problem but it still does not exsist when I test it, even if the marker is above the terrain, any help would be EXTREMELY helpful, thanks...

Tribal

If you don't mind uploading your terrain files in a zipped up folder i.e. .x, .tga and .fpe I'll take a look at it for you. Or email them to me.

I don't know the exact settings you have used in Geoscape3D, the size of the terrain or the scale / polygon count so it's a little difficult to help you any further without access to the files.

I've attached a screenshot which shows one of the terrain meshes that I used in a map recently to give you an idea of the size for something that will use the surface area of the FPSC map editor.

This model consists of 1025 vertices and 1922 triangles

Here is a screenshot of the mesh once textured with lightmapping and shadowmapping.

It's worth mentioning that if you want to have a terrain with shadowmapping in FPSC you will need to render this with Geoscape3D rather than using the internal FPSC lightmapper similar to how Rolfy likes to use 3DS Max for lighting his segments.

FPSC's lightmapping is great for indoor scenes but only gives you a kind of lo-res quality shadowmapping on large terrain models like this but the desired effect can still be achieved importing a pre rendered texture!.
