How would one make a 2-d cockpit? I tried using bitmaps, and images on the screen, but so far, i just get a black screen, instead of the image.

Not 100% sure exactly what you are after, so the following may not help...

Assuming you want to see the 3D screen 'outside', create a full 2D screen image of the cockpit, leaving all the windows black (RGB 0,0,0).

Load it in and create a sprite, setting transparency to on.

When you place it on the screen on top of the 3D, you should see the 3D view 'through' the areas which are black.

That should work, but to be honest I haven't tried it.
