Apparently there is some sort of problem with the hardware in my other computer, which has the latest version of my current DB project on (due to it being faster). The problem is that it can only load up in "safe mode" and "safe mode with network support", however the latter does not support the network , and I can't seem to use the floppy drive so I am not able to advance with my coding. Any help on how to get the files across?

I really want help, so sorry about bringing this to the top again.

The only solution I can think of is to put the hard drive from my broken PC into my OK one, but that would be a bit drastic for one folder. HELP !!!

Pull all the cards out. Then blow out any dust and put just the video and network carb back in and hope it works.

How big is folder? If not too big, zip it up and email it to yourself.

Also, what operating system, 98, XP, ?

What does computer do if you boot up normally.

I always go for the hdd surgery option where network problems are concerned, it definitely ends up being quicker and more painless, at least in the short term

grab your OS cd.

as the computer is starting up hold or tap delete to enter the bios

enter your bios password if you set it

look for the loading of devices for boot startup

CDROM C: D: A:

depending on your bios rotate them so the CDROM is the first.

restart your pc and if your using win98se as an example you can boot to dos with cdrom support.

once u have done this change directories to the windows folder on your c drive.

cd d:
cd win98

from here u can run a scan disk on your pc

scandisk c:
let it run and it may find chunky clusters which you can repair.

after this change the bios back to your hard drive and reboot with the cdrom out.

If it still doesnt let you into the normal booting mode then run msconfig from Start/Run and check the general tab window.

if selected startup isnt activated then toggle normal startup and reboot after apply ok

Once your back into the OS save your data to a recordable device.

reply back if you get stuck or have another OS and it doesnt work.

Thanks, I will try all that and reply to say if it worked, I am running on win98se and I don't think my DB version is going to affect what I am trying to do.

Sonic, it will fit on a floppy, and there is no network support, therefore no internet support. Also winzip doesn't work in safe mode.

Indi, I can't find scandisk in the "windows" folder, there is no "win98" folder. And the message it used to give me was "windows protection error, please restart your computer" but now it just goes blank and restarts by itself.

I would just move the hard drive to the other computer and copy everything you want to keep across. Then the best thing to do is reinstall windows. It can be impossible to fix even simple faults with windows so it's not generally worth the effort.

Already done, then it broke completely (before windows wasn't working properly, it kept crashing and running out of memory).

As you can get to the menu that asks you how to boot (you hit F8 during first few seconds), do the option that goeas along the lines of 'step-by-step something or other'. Hit return at each prompt. This will load windows but it also rebuilds some bits and pieces and has got me into some windows98 systems that wont boot normally.

P.S. it may be floppy is only broken in windows. boot into dos mode and see if you can access A: from dos and then copy files from dos to the floppy.
