Hello everyone,

I have lately been battling with myself with a question that I am not sure which resolution to pursue. My dilemma is that I am always working on projects, both paid contracts and WIP posts. I am nearing completion of WeedWorks for the public and I am really wanting to post a thread about my game I have been working on over the past few months. I have 2 WIP threads currently, both WeedWorks and TerrainScape, and I was wondering if posting a third would appear to the public as if I was spreading myself too thin? I have no problem working on that many, I am more curious about the community reception to doing so.

The thing is, WeedWorks is directly related to TerrainScape, and 'Driftwood: Rise of a Legend' is my Proof Of Concept (POC) Model for TerrainScape, therefore it is directly related to TerrainScape, and subsequently WeedWorks.

Both of my WIPs show a great deal of progress and a decent amount of community interest, would posting a third make me appear as if I have too many irons in the fire? Or would producing a WIP thread about Driftwood act as a catalyst for all of the threads and unite them so that others can see their relationships?

Is Driftwood ready for a WIP? Absolutely. Should I create a thread for Driftwood just yet? I do not know, that is why I am asking you.

Any advice?

I wouldn't worry about it. Most people, even other programmers at times, seem to think we can program a million things a week without any worries. At least that is how my bosses seem to be acting at the minute... There is only so many days in the week...

I am now at work seriously considering a new summary spreadsheet to be able to utilise more efficiently the existing summary spreadsheet I created to help me with the department spreadsheet of outstanding work that I maintain. Fun fun fun...

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

A project that utilises your tools can only be a good thing.

My team went from 4 to 3 to 2, and last week my colleague was on holiday. Nevertheless I was expected to do everything. Rather than walk one of us out of a job by doing a 16 hour day (which management would see as a normal day), I passed on any emails that were of the "Any news on that issue?" ilk. Management issue, through and through - I have games to code and a life to have.

In terms of programmers we went from about 60 (half tech support and half development) to 2 very soon (not counting some that were moved to other departments and can be called on in an emergency, although this can be frowned apon if you are not careful. Oh, and there is a pure F/E guy). I'm development basically. Plus I do all the design, specs, ballparks etc etc. Of course our original client base of about 100 companies has obviously gone down somewhat. To about 60 I believe. It's been a bit quiet lately and our main director believes in getting rid of people until you are at the bare minimum to run a department. And skill sets don't matter. Doesn't matter if you don't know it, you have to develop and support it when we kick out whatsisface in 5 minutes. Oh yes. Getting much more busy now (as they kicked out the last batch), so should be interesting soon. Considering I only work 4 days a week now (moved to Cyprus and now am a contractor).

Cheers

Thanks for your advice guys. I think I am going to go ahead and do it, but I am going to wait for a few weeks. I am waiting to finish 2 packs that I am working on and then I will probably devote a little more time to Driftwood and start up a new thread for it.
