Some schools can do that, generally it is done for Dyslexics. As for the specs, it's better than my PC and Laptop put together...but that's not really saying much.

That's a pretty good laptop although I'm pretty sure Turbocache just means it steals memory from the main RAM pool (trade descriptions act!)

If money is no object I'd rather have an Alienware latop with Dual 7950GTX in it (until the 8800 version comes out of course)

Well my school is doing it for every one so when we make games and such there wont be any weird hardware conflicts.

If it gets 'stolen' do you get another one for free.

By 'stolen' I mean given to me and said it was stolen...

I've seen schools toute this thing before. IT equipment has a 3 year replace cycle and it costs money to have it insured for staying in school premises. So it's cheaper just to give it to the kids to look after. I know my local school gives laptops to it's 6th formers as a way to attract students too.

wtf does being dyslexic have to do with getting a free laptop? you'll just type everything wrong instead of writing it wrong.

Why I mean the school kind of needs to, or else people will all be on different pages, some games will work with some people and some not.

Well, I am doing a 100% games Bachelor at my Uni, and we don't get anything.
We have to fork out $100's for text books each semester (about $80 per subject with 4 subjects each semester), and the PCs we have are decent, but they're in the lab, and they're not laptops.

I had to save up whilst working before going to Uni so I could buy my PC (and build it from scratch so I could do it cheaper).

Hence the jealousy.

Ah yeah, they just threw all of that stuff straight into our tuition so it was easier for us.
