A game is not good unless it gives the player what they want. I am making a FPS game in DBPro and I want to know what you would want in a FPS( or any type of game).

Violence, lots of gore, and a good story line. Plot twists are always nice. Being able to modify weapons or upgrade skills in some way, maybe. Lots of action. Not boring. Try not to be repetitive. Original ideas. Stuff like that. Hope that helped.

You want to have wreckage. A lot of wreckage.
The more confusion in the environment the better ie explosions and crashes.
A good story line but tasteful gore, too much makes the player think of the black knight from monty pythons holy grail.
Mad powerful guns like serious sam 2 often help.

Enough light to see things, some cool things to blow up, nice controls without stupid glitches, awesome guns, like rocket launchers and miniguns, and some sexy ladies.

1. Fun to play
2. Storyline
3. Graphics

they are important in that order. Graphics just don't matter if the other 2 suck.

Some decent gore and carnage is good. I agree on upgradeable guns and players. Secret Areas are fun, Yay Easter Eggs! A good not-annoying soundtrack is important. and most importantly, Every game needs some subtle humor in it.

do you like the combat to be outside or inside or maybe a combination of them?

Deus Ex.

Oh. What Zaibatsu said. Combination of inside and outside. Screw all FPS in labs, space stations or office buildings.

I have an idea for a basic gameplay:

In the game there would be you, your team, them, there team and a assortment of neutral creatures.

You would try to complete a task before the other team such as race to a checkpoint or kill the most creatures.

You can also kill the other teams players while completing a task.

There would be alot of weapons that can be upgraded when going to a "upgrade point" and bring money or something like that.

There would be vehciles placed around the map, they would not do anything until a player gets inside.

This game can be single-player,multi-player or co-op.

Please feel free to comment on my ideas.

Story isn't essential. Just so long as it isn't so bad that it drags everything down with it, in which case you'd be better off either without one or with a very simple outline that fades into the background.

Graphics should fit the style of the game. Cartoony, realistic, colourful, dull, etc. Intensive next-Gen graphics will not make the game.

Gameplay is where you should concentrate most. If your gameplay fails, your game fails.

That ain't a paradox.
