I think it's a good start, remember the old school of programming,
first draw on a sheet your idea, then suddivide the program part needed to develop your game, finally make the different section working togeder in the final project.
i'm 30, since 8 i write programs ranging to assembly & basic v1.0 of c64, amos and blizbasic for amiga, qbasic,gamebasic,blizbasic and finally dbpro for ms-dos.

This reminds me a bit of my first game I made, Magic Cube, based on the DB tutorials. You were the circle flying about trying to hit the cube whose texture wasn't moving, but every time you hit one whose texture was moving you got bump points. Once you had 300 bump points you died. Every time you found the magic cube 50 bump points were taken off and you got points added to your score depending on the time you took.

Now I want to play magic cube.
