Nothing is bad about Vista? I'm sure you'll get an array of Vista problems if people can be bothered. Simply because there's a lot of problems with Vista, bug issues etc. if there was nothing wrong with Vista then it would be the perfect OS and MS wouldn't need to update it, there would be no need for an Anti virus, anti spyware or firewall. I think you may have been overwhelmed by some of it's cool features and the fact you haven't come across any problems. (Which was the same when we got XP, now XP is full of problems, even after a lot of updating and two security patches, though an improvement)

You may not have experienced any issues at all, or yet, but that doesn't rule out that it doesn't have any problems. Also, there's a good chance you'll come across a problem with Vista, like every other OS that has been made...ever.

As for the hate, I don't think it's fair to say that any of us hate it, for one thing it's early to make the 'Vista is bad' judgement as some do, as the most stable OS out there started off with bug issues and incompatibility issues. Most of us are probably waiting on something to say 'Vista is a good upgrade', some of us hold out to see what direction an OS goes before we buy it. But I seriously don't feel an 'anti-vista' thing amongst the majority here.

My so called 'issues' with Vista are problems that have been mentioned/reported, like one that won't be fixed is the large amount of RAM use and my scepticism comes from previous negative Windows XP experience. As for others, I'm sure they have their reasons for not jumping on the bandwagon.

Oh... and you can turn off that annoying security thing. Check your control panel. Or search on google if you can't find it there.

The annoying security thing?!?! Actually I love the UAC!!!! Finally no longer my sister or dad can use my programs or screw the PC with their downloads and installs!!!

Although I do feel there is a huge 'anti-vista' hype going on I guess 99% of them doesn't know what they're saying and have their info second/third hand!!! Personally Ive ran into no performance problems or bugs/crashes!!!! Far more stable than XP ever was, here!!!! Plus, the Networking is from heaven I love the networking map and the clear overview!!! So who hates Vista, eh?!?!

@INH: And what the **** is a sentance?!?!?!?!

(Just had to do that, sorry people...)

That's what you get if 90% of your software is written for a Mac, Linux or MS-DOS.

Otherwise, you're talking rubbish and need to actually try Vista first.

Dazzag your avatar wouldn't work if it was more than 50x50.
I have Vista and I think it is good but the new features should be much better like the speech reginition I said to it on note-pad to write thegamecreators.com but it came up with "In the Deadly" How did it work that one out?[!]

Microsoft isn't that popular. Its better than wal-mart and ChineseSlaveTrade Limited but its not very well lit in the public eye. Most people hate vista simply because its Microsoft made.

Over 500million users of Windows and Xbox products world wide would disagree that it's not popular.
You can still be popular without being liked.

I mean take wal*mart for example, ppl don't like them (well the american side of the pond, as ASDA is quite liked here); but it's still a hugely popular supermarket chain. People just get issues with companies that have monopolies. For example here Tesco is bashed a lot because its' popularity is on-par with wal*mart.. but they would never be in that position business wise if people didn't use them, and it's not like there isn't decent competition either. This is the same for the OS market.

If somthing is popular it is regarded with favour, approval, or affection by people in general meaning well liked. I never said their products such as xbox were unpopular. I'm saying things like windows haven't had a good reputation compared to Mac and Linux because of error messages, infrequent bug fixes and the blue screen of death. If you still like Microsoft , try phoning the Microsoft help line and see how long you can retain your sanity.

I'd like to take a jab at c... Everyone knows about linux who has a computer and doesn't have their head up their butts.

Nobody uses linux (relatively) because it's not easy to install (in some cases) and nobody (again, relatively compared to windows users) bothers to find out how to obtain it.

I still use windows because linux doesn't work with the games and software I use, I doubt it ever will until windows starts actually sucking, which in reality only marginally does in some cases currently.

As of right now, I'm perfectly contented with vista, one of the easiest and prettiest OSes you can get...

The microsoft help line is nothing compared to the BT help line. One time while fixing up broadband, we had to phone the 'free' help line. This directed us to another phone line. The man we got through to didn't understand how internet explorer worked, he told us the reason that broadband didn't work was because of an internet explorer problem, and after several hours we made the remark 'at least this line is free' to which we got the reply that it had been charging us since we dialed it, this not being the free help line, the free one simply being a directing-to-another-line line (What a con!). When we asked for someone to remedy this cost con for us, the man said 'I can't do that' and put the phone down.
We got Broadband working in the end.

There was a reason left out for why most people use Microsoft.

Basically everything runs on it. That's another down side to mac OS, aside from the price (YES, we all know that you can install xp on a mac, but that's still Microsoft).

And I'd like a show of hands of the people who hate Microsoft who are using it right now. Not as in have ever used it, but are using it currently, even as they hate it. Then, I'd like all the haters who are in this position to ask themselves why they are using a Microsoft OS. This of course does not apply if you're a wee kid who can't change their OS because their parents wont let them.

When my Mom had internet through MSN (because it was cheaper then a local isp... i tried to talk her out of it), we had to phone up MSN because msn explorer wouldnt install and they were quite helpful, in fact, allowing us the info we needed to dial in without using msn explorer (of course he told us we would have to download msn explorer later in order for the internet to keep working).

Of course, that last part wasn't true and we were able to avoid msn explorer altogether, but I'm sure he was required to say it.

As for Windows assistance, I've never needed to call except for activation, which I never had a problem with.

Wow, don't turn this thread into a Mac OS X/Linux/Windows debate. Join a forum dedicated soley to that if you must. Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows all suck. Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows are all good... It just depends what your needs are.

And please, don't bash Microsoft. Because of Microsoft, you have a PC. Because of Microsoft, Apple has grown. Because of Microsoft, you have TGC. If it wasn't for Microsoft, a lot of people here would still be mindless idiots. If it wasn't for Microsoft, there wouldn't be DirectX, and as you can see, DirectX kicks OpenGLs ass (DX 10, I haven't seen anything like that from OpenGL without having to use shaders, which OpenGL doesn't natively support (I think)).

So, with that said, you all need to go back onto the topic of VISTA. Not XP, but Vista. Vista isn't as bad as you all say it is, is the topic. Don't take another OS into account. If Vista meets your needs, post. If Vista doesn't meet your needs, post a REASONABLE argument, not what I've been seeing.

Cheers,

I personally think Vista is the best OS available at the moment. I can't believe some people when they say they don't want it until it's updated, I update vista every time I can. It's caused me no problems so far, no viruses, and it looks so much cooler with the Aero theme.

Microsoft on the other hand. I used to think really badly of them, but after Vista, Direct X and the Xbox 360, they are so cool. May not the best customer support in the world, but they probably deal with more inquiries than any other company (give or take). As Aaron said as well, Apple grew because of Microsoft, I think that deserves a clap or two, even if I don't agree with Bill Gates holding 20% of their shares.

I hate typing out explanations at 1 in the morning.

I agree about people waiting until Vista is updated. They release free updates, so why NOT get it if you can? You would be able to take advantage of Vistas new features (If you don't have a DirectX 10 card, then that statement excludes DirectX 10), as well as the lovely interface. While you may be able to get a lovely interface like Vista's, it'll cost you performance wise.

What I'm curious about is this (For anyone who may know): If Vista is completely powered by Direct3D (Interface wise), then is it possible to just grab the handle to the Direct3D Device vista uses, instead of having to create your own? (There is a performance boost in not using multiple devices)

There are so many times I wish I had XP over Vista; however, I'm still happy that I have it. The interface is fantastic IMO, and the UAC is cool when I don't want my older brother messing around on my computer.

The main reason not to upgrade to vista right now is the same reason not everyone upgraded to xp right away. service packs. Another is most people will wait until they get a new comp. There's no way I'm going to buy Vista for a computer I'm replacing in a year.
