I was thinking about getting a new domain name for my site and it will probably be one of the following:

www.gamingcweb.com
www.gamingcw.com
www.gamingc.co.uk
www.gamingc.net

Although I can't decide, so it would be helpful if I could get some of your opinions. Which one of the above 4 is best, or is there another better domain you have in mind?

www.gamingc.net
It's shorter, simpler, better, thus easier to remember

I normally would go for .com, just because it's the default one you don't have to remember. Not really a big deal though, just my preference.

Why would .net be better? .com will always be better, so long as we keep using .coms and .nets

The only reason to use .net is if it's taken by .com.... or if .net is part of your name... like getpaint.net

I think Jerico2day is right. The .com is not only used for commercial sites, it's more a symbol of popularity, or I should say a symbol of wanted popularity.

Kinda like what Jerico said, if you do it wisely, the extension can become part of your 'name'.
For example, my website is short and simple, so it's all one name:
jt0.org

Try for the shortest URLs (that still clearly show your name) first, then keep trying till you find one that's free and suits your needs.

Nintendo DS & Dominos :: DS Dominos

Hmmm. Interesting point by Jess there. Using that logic, I would go with www.b.org if at all possible for one character domain names. Gotta love that Trek reference

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Hmmm. Looks like 3 characters is the min. Rats.

Something like www.joinb.org would be good though or www.beb.org Heheheh Nice. Apparently joinb.org is available (not beb.org). Or at least one of the availability checkers said it was. Knock yourselves out Hmmm. So is dieb.org which is pretty cool...

Oooh. How cool would cyb.org be? Damn, taken too. That I would seriously consider buying if not stupid prices. Coolness factor is right up there. In a geeky kinda way

Sigh, kinda wish I had concentrated back in the day, and thought about these things. Especially considering I was a computer science degree student. Damn being social and stuff! I mean how obvious is it (now) that something like sex.com would be worth millions? For pretty much nothing! Oh well...

Cheers

what about tehb.org?
I like to try to avoid net, .com and .co.uk are better and well known, and .com is more expensive for not much better quality, so I'd have to go with .co.uk.

Theres so many;

inter.net
antarti.ca
inter.com
cyb.org

I think theres a list of them somewhere on the web, through Wikipedia IIRC.

To answer the question, I wouldn't chose any of those domains you listed. Go smaller and simpler, or go with something thats large but sounds good.

Main thing I like is if you type, say, bob, then press ctl+return, then it automatically defaults the www. and .com on the address. Almost 2nd nature now, so .com is an obvious advantage.
