So I was watching the Final Fantasy retrospective and I want to give it one more try. I have Final Fantasy 8 and was never able to really get into it.

So I was wondering what you guys think would be a good one to try. I need one that is still easy to find. I've got a Ps2 and Xbox 360, also a Super Nintendo.

You dint get Final Fantasy 8? Oh well..

Its one of my favorite games ever. But i have some suggest..

Theres ppl who likes FF10 as best ff or FF7 .. But if you want to know which FF i started what was FF9. And its pretty good starting choice. Its simple and pretty funny and easy to get hang on (Even i had spanish version and i dint understand the languance at all and still finished it )

But FF8 FTW

But if you want more better game for your PS2 than FF then i suggest Kingdom Hearts

I have heard and played Blue Dragon which is by the creators of Final Fantasy but i think its the same kind of gameplay. If thats not your kind o game Final Fantasy X is quite good, an Final Fantasy VII is great aswell.

Hope that helped.

Best

Add me if you got Xbox live please -_-

The first FF game I got into was FF1. I bought it for the Playstation (As they sell a disc which contains FF1 and FF2 for Playstation), and I completed it. You can also just download the ROM for the NES and just emulate the first FF. I have FF7 and liked that rather much, I never beat it though because I lost the discs.

I have FF10 and found it gets boring after a while.. I haven't made it too far I assume.

I found it in a Game Stop for the PS1. It was called Final Fantasy Origins.

Besides, starting from the beginning of a series is always better... You don't wanna start reading a book half way through, right?

EDIT: Star Wars is a special case though... Starting at the beginning via release dates is what I should have said.

Oh damn, I bought it a long time ago, maybe about 3 years... They might still carry it, probably in the used section. I bought mine new, but used should work just as good because they test the discs (Not will, but should). I lost my disc though, otherwise I'd send it to you because I barely play it anymore. Hell I'm just waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3 to come out, then I'm gonna try and get whatever console it comes out on, and it itself, that's about the only time I'm gonna play any games for a while.

Final Fantasy VI SNES and PSX - Very good, though old and 2D, it is still a classic and is very well put together

Final Fantasy VII PSX and PC - Was a very good game in my opinion, certainly recommend it, labelled as the best.

Final Fantasy VIII PSX and PC - This was very good as well, but not as good as some.

Final Fantasy XII - Is very good, though I think it's a bit stretched, I mean there are too many periods when I need to battle and level up, which is a down point to the game, I mean I'm 40 hours in the game and the plot is picking up. I completed FFVI, VII, VIII and IX in less than 40 hours...even with side quests. (Though IX was pushing the 40 hour mark with the chocograph side quest)

Final Fantasy X - Was quite good, in terms of plot it doesn't have the same greatness, but you've got some newer game play in there and different features.

Final Fantasy X-2 - Keep away, trust me, don't even think about playing it...it is a terrible sequel to FFX, if waza online was still up with my reviews, I'd direct you straight to my FFX2 one. Gameplay wise, it's good, it's just everything else stinks, especially as the main characters are now tarts.

If you want to get started, you're probably going to find yourself going into Final Fantasy VII quite easily IMO. It was the first one I played and probably the first Playstation game I played and fell in love very quickly.

If you start playing KH.. I suggest playing KH1 First.. Because Story is important part of it.. But i've heard that some guys found KH1 boring.. Well i dint.

PSP Version looks great and so on.. But havent tested..

But i have the Final Fantasy 3 - DS Remake and all i can say its awesome!

I dint like Final Fantasy XII.. It just doesnt feel old FF anymore and its just friggin MMORPG stylish game.. Nah i dont like it..

But best FF games are...

1. Final Fantasy VIII (FF8)
2. Final Fantasy VII (FF7)
3. Final Fantasy IX (FF9)
4. Final Fantasy III - DS (FF3 - DS)
5. Final Fantasy VI (FF6)
6. Final Fantasy X (FF10)
7. Im tired of listing all

Basically im huge FF fan cuz i have played all of FF games Including Crystal Chronicles (Btw. Cant wait FFCC for DS)
and Chocobo Fables..

But the Kingdom Hearts series starts to feel better than FF (Of course not better than FF7 or FF8 i just love the storys on these.. And FF8 has the personality and junction system )

And if you want other RPG suggestion then i suggest Zelda games or Oblivion or Morrowind.. Baten Kaitos is pretty kood aswell but the voice acting is like in FFX -.-

Anyways..

Yeah if you do Kingdom Hearts, get KH1. Then see if you can import Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix from japan, then Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and then KH2, then (If there is one, I heard rumors of it) Kindom Hearts: Final Mix+ (KH2FM)

... Then send all the KH Final Mixes to me

Well that's probably why you never got into it. FF8s junction system is just annoying and complex.

If you like turn based getting FF1 and FF2 on the PSP would be a good idea. I never really like them because they were really slow paced games. Or you can find the Origins Playstation game with both on it.

I would recommend FF4 (FF2 on the SNES). There's nothing annoying or complex about it. You have characters in a set class and as you battle you level up to learn new abilities for them. Makes it a lot easier just to pick up the game and play. The only downside to this, it sort of forces you to learn how to use all of your classes effectivly. It also introduces the ATB instead of turn based, the only problem is you can't actually see who's turn is coming up next. You can also buy this on the Playstation as Final Fantasy Chronicles which also comes with Chrono Trigger another good RPG.

FF5 I think is a really underrated. Its not great, but its still very good. The ATB is back, but they fixed being able to see who's turn will be coming up, and also improved the Job System that was seen in FF3. The customization of the Job System I think allows for various styles of play, and its a lot easier to get into. You pick a job and the more you battle the better you get at that job.

FF6 is overall very good. I never really like the story as much as others, but it balances out both the traditional forced classes, but also adds in a little customization through relics. The ATB system is still there and the new special attacks that characters are able to do when their health becomes low is introduced.

You can get both FF5 and FF6 in the same game on the Playstation called Final Fantasy Anthology, or FF6 on the SNES known as FF3.

I have mixed feelings about FF7. On one hand I like the atmosphere, but then I think the gameplay gets extremely boring. The Materia system is just flawed. Esstentially all you need is 3 characters the entire game and equip them with your best materia. There really isn't an advantage to using all of your characters, epsecially since at the beginning of the game they are extremely unblanaced in their ability to fight with their on hand weapons. So you pick the 3 characters who do the best damage with their weapons and equip them with all the materia you need and go on your way. And if you happen to lose one of your characters its no problem because the materia levels up so all new abilities will transfer with the materia to your new character. I think the only reason why I can forgive this more than FF8s system is the storyline and atmosphere of the game make up for it. You can get this one on the PC and Playstation.

FF8... The only way I can see anyone actually liking the junction system is if they forced themselves to use it the entire game and ended up coping with it. Me, I never bother finishing it. Basically its the same problem as FF7 except its more tedious and annoying. Esstentially all characters can do the same thing, but it takes time now. I also never liked the fact you never got any new weapons, and the way you recieve magic was time consuming and annoying.

FF9 I think would be the best Playstation Final Fantasy to get. The set classes are back, but you're able to customize your class abilities by equipping items/weapons/armor. Equipping certain items to your character will allow them to use different abilities. The items recieve experience every time you battle and when they reach full experience the ability the item let you use is permantely binded to you. So eventually you'll be able to use every ability your class has to offer.

FFX is hard to like. When I first played it I didn't really like it all that much. But I think the storyline redeems the game. I just didn't realize it until a few months after I beat the game. I never really liked the battle system, I prefer the ATB, but if you like turn based battle systems that have certain conditions then FFX should be fun. Its basically all turned based, but depending on your actions the order turn will be visibly changed on screen so you can plan your actions out ahead of time. The game also introduces a grid that allows you to level up your abilities. Each character has different paths they can follow to learn new abilities. While each character starts out with different paths, I think you can eventually make every character use the same abilities. I don't like this as much as set classes, but I do find it more appealing that FF7s and FF8s systems.

FFX-2 I don't care for. I played it for a little while, but never got into it enough to go in depth about its gameplay.

FFXII is probably the most fun out of all the FFs I've ever played. A lot of people criticize it for its likeness to an MMO, but the battle system is so flexible that the criticism becomes dependant on their experience. The only likeness to an MMO that rings true is roaming around the world, and doing "quests", which are of course optional. After two decades of playing FF games, no random battles is a much needed improvement. I usually dread having to fight monsters in previous FF games because it becomes extremely repetitive. FFXII also has a grid system that lets characters learn new abilities. Its almost like FFXs except its a lot easier to make all your characters the same. Along with learning abilities, the grid systems lets you learn how to use certain weapons/items/armor. So while you can make all your characters the same, you can also customize them to be unique.

Haha Aron I beat ya.. I have played the KH1 (All of it) , Chains Of Memories (All of it) , And i have tried Final Mix+ (The kh2 one) on my friend but havent ever got ps2 again so i havent ever beated kh2

About FFIX,

Like krilik said its pretty good and im with you.. Its maybe the best FF to start playing. its pretty easy and not so complex. Then you can move on onto the complex ff ones..

And i liked pretty much of FFX Battle system.. You neede to tactic to win the battle ecpesially on Penance

But if you like MMOs then i suggest the FFXII (But i found it lame..)

Like krilik said that FF8 is HARD! But if you get how the junction system works its pretty easier but still Omega Weapon and Last Boss will be pretty hard.. And i really like this game.. It had good story complex junction system and was hard game (and i like hard games) .. And im still playing this.. I found this game a lot better than FF7 and i have played this trough like 20 times now
And im looking forward for no-junction challenge

But if you dont like FF Turn Based battle systems then defienatly go try Kingdom Hearts (Look some videos on youtube) or Devil May Cry..

But i suggest FFIX for ya! Its easy and simple FF to start (Hard to fidn nowdays duh..)

Go KH baby! I'm a big fan of ff but KH just really pulled me in with child memories of disney and square characters in a big story of the heart and love and friendship.

Oh my god when this happened I cried, no lie
-SPOILER FROM KH2-

Another good one is the tales series, although I only care for phantasia and symphonia so far. Legendia I took back in a week, I just did not like the story.

Well my friend had 8 laying around so I picked it up and I cant understand why they decided to pit you up against two bosses one after the other about an hour into the game... I cant get past that stupid robot spider thing, two of my three party are dead from that flying monster thing that would not stop using storm breath...any suggestions here?

Quote: "you can pick where to attack on it?"

I'm not sure if I remember correctly.

Quote: "Dang it, is there a way to heal your party other than potions?"

Don't you have cure/cura spells by then?

Either way, use lightning-based attacks against that giant mechanical spider, it's most effective if I remember correctly. That or it heals it. One of those.

When you've killed the beast that uses storm breath, use a tent at the save point at the bottom of the tower before you go outside. Though I think you still have to revive your party members separately..

It's an item that you can use at a save point or on the world map to heal your players back to full health (I think it revives them too). It may be named differently in FF8 though, I haven't played it in a long time.
