Geek Culture / 360 gets price cut, HDMI, 2 heatsinks and 65nm chips

Yay.

Microsoft seem to have finally sorted everything out.

The Premium 360 now has a HDMI port as standard, and comes fitted with the extra heatsink that repairs currently get, and the are starting to put the new 'Falcon' chips which run much cooler (they should appear in shipments probably next month).

Apparantly they are also starting to fade out the core model (that's good, it is useless) which hopefully means developers will be able to assume there's a HD, so we won't get problems like they had on GTA4.

Apparantly some games are starting to carry a 'HD required' tag.

Remember everyone gets the retrospective 3 year warranty as well, so everyone go and break their 360 if they want HDMI on it!

They just dropped the price $50 in America in time for Madden, and there might be another one just before Halo 3.

Hopefully all this goodness will make its way to the UK before H3. The failure rate was the only thing putting me off.

I think it's going to be a good Christmas for MS they definitely have the best games coming out this year (Sony probably have the better of 2008)

Me too, and that most of the games I want for it I can get on PC, though this increases my chance of getting one, but it's some of the PS3's games that are on the way that really attract me, but as a student without a job, the price scares me slightly less than Paris Hilton's attitude.

HD REQUIRED!?
Sure, something like half of households have HDTVs, if not less. This is really closing the market down.

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

I think he meant hard drive, as the core model does not come with one.

probably zilch, in fact, they'll probably put the price up, just to teach us a lesson.

Yeah I meant hard drive.

The core model is cheaper, because it doesn't have a hard-drive, but once you buy a memory stick for it, the price difference is really small, so it really is something of a gimp pack.

Theres 2 types of 360 owner, those with hard drives, and those who wish they'd bought the hard drive . Seriously, my brothers 360 has no hard drive, he has to keep deleting his old save games everytime they decide to release an update, before long all those updates fill up the measly 64mb cards. The memory cards themselves are pretty good for storing your profile on, means you can access it on any 360, but for actual game storage they should have made the HD a standard.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...

Absolutely none. Only the rest of the world gets the price drop.
There is method behind Microsoft's seeming madness though.

Some might not be aware that in Spring (March 07), Microsoft Xbox UK started sneaking the 4th revision to our shelves about the same time the States were getting the Elite.
Interestingly these new Core and Premium machines seemed to be quieter, and less quirks. These machines had been given an overhaul of a new chipset, cooling solution, and upgraded DVD-Drive. They also feature these mysterious 3rd chip that the Elite has that Microsoft themselves claim are purely there for enhanced video performance. (although I know no-one who had poor SD/HD playback.. but interesting these updates come as DirectX10 was just hitting the market)

Well that aside, we're not likely to actually see the Elite. Atleast not with the package the N.Americans got.
A major plus side that our xbox360s are all supplied from Microsofts' hardware manufacturing in Ireland, and parts from local suppliers; is that our hardware can change completely irrelivant of what the US wants to release.

They're made in Ireland? That's a shock, if true. Pretty much everything I own says "made in Japan", "fabrique en Chine", or "made in Germany" on it. It's why I often wonder how British business works.

actually there a nice bit of irony there, being that the hologram labels are made in china heh
for the most part chips and major bits like cases or such are still made externally.. but it's all assembled in ireland.

it's why we didn't really have as big a shortage a while back as the N.American territories.

Well if it works like America, it's like this: We design the product, ship the design to China, get it made there for a fraction of the cost here (because of minimum wage), and then get it shipped back to us .

Hard Drive Disk = HDD, not to be mixed with HD!

I can't afford anything but new Guitar Hero games for my PS2...
