Just bought a 6200A, and it doesn't seem to work with Dark Basic Classic using the latest Nvidia Drivers. Has this ever been reported before? It works fine with drivers from 2005, but these drivers will not play HD movies on my tv, and I want everything to work.

Apart from Dark Basic.. everything else seems to be working now, although it has taken me several days to fix everything with Codecs, and System Restore points.

Pincho.

Ps.. Hello.. not been on here for ages, but still programming a lot with DB Classic.

Hey Pincho

When you say "Doesn't work", what do you mean exactly?

I get a complete crash/reboot reported by the Just In Time debugger as a Graphic Driver failure. I have had a hard time installing this card, and am not sure if the card is faulty or not, but have slowly managed to get most things to work. The card is NEW.

Just In Time debugger could also be at fault, it seems to create problems that were never reported in the past.

Works correctly even here. Using the DBC demo and latest Nvidia drivers.

Theory is when you know something, but it doesn't work. Practice is when something works, but you don't know why.
Programmers combine theory and practice: Nothing works and they don't know why.

Have you tried running the "DB 3D Card Reset" program? It's a longshot and I've never used it either, but you never know...

Didn't know there was a DB 3D card reset... I'll look for it... I think this card might be the problem... I just got back from the shops, and the computer had crashed.

Could be you don't have enough watts in your power supply.

It works when idle but when DBP runs it at full speed there is not enough power to keep your system stable.

My XFX 6200 claims to need a 250w PSU, but seems to work fine on my 150w PC. I suppose it depends how many other things are running power off your PC, not much in mine 1 HD and 1 CD-RW.

It says on my power supply that I have max 380w with the 12v combination that my ASROCK uses. This Graphic card does not have a fan, so I need to make sure that it is not getting hot.. I have moved a lower PCI card further away from the Graphic card.

I am going to format C: today, and start from a fresh drive. Then if that doesn't work I am going to change the card.

Well my card was working after a fresh format of the C: drive, but as soon as I installed DirectX 9c it crashed Dark Basic again.

If you're sure you downloaded the latest drivers for you craphics card from the nvidia site then I'd take it back maybe as it don't sound good. What make is it?

It's an XFX Gforce 6200A

I am currently testing old drivers until they stop working, and they seem to stop working as soon as Full Screen Video on HD TV becomes available. Which is about 91.31. But it seems to mainly corrupt Dark Basic Classic, which suddenly activates FFD Show which is a video Codec at the same point that the Drivers start to fail.

The crash might have something to do with the Sony Bravia TV accepting Full Screen, and there are no drivers for my TV to fix this problem.

Very strange... I have found a driver that works!!!

84.21 supports full screen video, and Dark Basic also works.

So I must always use this driver with my graphic card.

exactly how we used to fix that here... installing forceware drivers newer than the version that your card (AGP) is supplied with, always gave inferior performance, although I've never had the problem where DB refuses to load.

On a side note, if you ever got a PCIE card, absolutely DO install new forceware drivers. They improve performance, as they're supposed to.

Update.... Xposhop sent me a brand new card without even asking for my old one back. I got the new card, and it still only works with 84.21 drivers. The new drivers give me many more monitor resolutions, and for some reason activate FFDShow to be used with DB Classic. (FFDShow is a Video Codec, not sure why DB would activate it.) I think that these monitor resolutions might be wrong for my monitor, and they bring up some monitor res unknown warnings. So maybe it is these warnings that are crashing DB. Not sure... anyway I am happy to use the 84.21 drivers, and being as I have sold the other card for £20, I have got myself a bargain.

I recently bought the exact same card (XFX 6200A AGP 256), was begining to think there was something seriously wrong with the card as it seemed to be incompatible with so many Vista drivers.

Found something interesting though, if I download the "English UK" drivers it's alright; but English US or International and suddenly it become an unknown card. I reckon there's an issue with the card bios, but not even going to bother finding out now I have the latest drivers installed and stable.

I clicked on the English UK drivers a couple of weeks ago, but was directed to the international drivers download page, so I used those. Haven't been directed to the English UK drivers, so haven't tried them.

Edit: Just looked for the English UK drivers, and there aren't any. Just International. But I am using Windows XP, so that's probably why.

It's part of the international set, but if you look on the manual download on the right-hand side there is a list of the regional specific versions. English - UK is the top one.

You don't get that option with the Windows XP download. You just get the International drivers every time.
