Hey guys I do alot of gaming in my spare time, pretty much all I do i my spare time .

Anywho I am getting a new PC in 7 months but ATM here are my specs

AMD 2100+
1 gig ram
geforce 7600gs with 512mb

I could upgrade to a 2800+ for 150$
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80177-R

Not sure if this is worth it or not, I'm getting pretty low FPS in wow when I raid and doom 3 and quake 4 actually run ok on medium settings

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Will

I'm betting you'll have better luck in upgrading your RAM. The graphics card is fairly low end, but not too bad. I would imagine going from a 2100 to a 2700 probably wont make a huge different, but I could be mistaken.

So my vote is on upgrading ram to improve performance.

A 2100+ is really damn old tho and idk a gig of ram seems relatively decent I look on requirements for games now and the thing I am starting to not meet is the processor requirement but it just seems like its too expensive for that old of a processor

Woops! I could have sworn you said you had only 512 ram! I must have been looking at your gfx card. In that case, I think upgrading your graphics card would probably do more good, and after that, then upgrading your processor. Both are pretty much old

You might be able to do it with a benchmark test... Does something like futuremark test both the cpu and the gfx card together and display results for both? It's been a long time since I've run a benchmark

I would either buy a 2nd hand chip of ebay for less

or

split your old PC, sell the parts on ebay and buy a new PC

(Also, some games ahve built in benchmarks, which would give you meaningful results, I know call of juarez has a dx10 benchmark test)

His bottleneck is the 333Mhz data bus on his motherboard, these days everything connected to the motherboard is running at 666-800Mhz!! They call 666 a 667 bus, i wonder why

Muhahaha number of da beast in ma PC!

a new motherboard and everything you connect to it... PATA hard drive is now SATA, AGP graphics is now PCI-E, Memory, CPU need changing too. (a bit of a hassel)

best course of action in my opinion is to just get a new PC

Probably because it's really 666.66 mhz.

But I dunno if that processor will run WOW better... you should do a benchmark before deciding.

Wow, top parents, I wish mine would buy me the best home computer available on the planet! Are they adopting?

Run my benchmark when you get it I'd love to see what happens on a 8800 PC http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=101716&b=5

As mentioned, often the best solution is to sell everything inside the case (if the case is good) and buy everything new. No matter what you upgrade you usually end up with a bottleneck and technology improves in all fields so you need a new motherboard and a new everything sooner or later.

RAM often do good but why buy more old RAM when you can waste your money on new RAM instead? Of course you need a new MB for your new RAM and then your other hardware don't fit the MB...

Good for you getting such a system!
