So I'v played the bioshock demo and it didn't really make me want to buy the game, however it was pretty neat and the graphics were flipping sweet, regardless im probably gonna buy the game so i can finish the story. Anyone else play the demo yet? The game comes out today and i work in a mall plus i have a 25$ gift card which will pay for half of it =)

Underlord could you post your system specs? I've got the steam bioshock demo because its the fastest free download available but on my rig the graphics are screwed. I've even tried the ATI bioshock driver fix and no joy.

I'm using a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb AGP/ dual athlon 2000+ MP/ 2.5gb ram - even with the driver fix, I'm only able to see fire FX and smoke - nothing else!

It maybe time to upgrade but the way the PC game market is at the moment I don't see the point. There will only be about 4 decent topspec games out in the next few years - & only one exclusive (Crysis). Even Half life 2:EP2 will be out on Xbox360 so I'm tempted to get an xbox instead.

So did anyone here manage to play the Bioshock demo?

(using something close to a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb AGP graphics card?)

It seems that some(or most) SM 2.0 Graphics Cards will not work with Bioshock.

Oh blow.

Tried to play it, but it didn't work on my computer at all. Almost everything was entierly black, and in the menus I couldn't see the mouse.

Mr X - there's a tool called 'Power Strip' it's free - download it and you can increase the gamma (hold short cut keys 'ctrl','alt','+' when you load the game is running) - as I've have the 'everything is too dark' problem on some games. Also check the requirements and whether or not your graphics card is capable of playing (check for lists of compatible gfx cards and what shader module it'll play for 2.0 or 3.0, Redmotion said some SM2.0 cards won't work.

I played the PC version and wasn't as impressed as other people seemed to be. The initial crash scene was very nice and the water effects on the screen made it pretty cool however one thing that bugged me was when the carcass of the plane hits the tunnel and water started flooding in; the water kept flowing in but the water level never rose which seemed rather cheap. Also I had a hard time trying to imagine what else you could do in the game that was shown in the demo. Sure you get extra weapons and spells but the game itself would be virtually the same I'd imagine. I liked the attention to detail of things, as you could break the glass of all objects and take items from them and such but it felt a bit like an underwater Oblivion to me.

Redmotion my specs are as follow....

AMD XP 3200+ 2.0GHZ (OC'ed to 2.6)
2 Gigs Corsair XMS
7950GT 512MB's
300GB Maxtor Sata 7200RPM

The game requires a 512MB gfx card. But the minimum is a 256MB. Personally I'd go with any next gen card or last gen card like a Nvidia 7800 or better or whatever the equlivent to a ATI card might be.

The game played, but the only things the show up were the blinking red light on the plane and the fire.

Do you think it's my 512mb RAM or my Radeon 9550 that's the problem?

No problem playing on my dad's computer though, so when I do get it, I'll just steal his.

Personally, I'd try the demo...because I've fancied knowing what a game would be like player at 2 fps...however the download file was under 2gb...which put me off.

Did you download the extra ATI drivers?

I've played the demo, I found it quite cool, so I went and pre-ordered it on steam. Like I say, if you don't like this game, you shouldn't call yourself a gamer o.0

My specs:

AMD Athlon 2.21Ghz 3700+ 64Bit
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS SuperClocked 320MB
4Gb RAM

Isn't the minimum 128MB? I have a 128MB video card and the demo worked for me.

I have to laugh at that, Random. I had a 7600GS 512Mb Geforce and bioshock was laggy on low settings, but not as much on full settings.

I now have a 8800 320Mb Geforce and Bioshock runs as smooth as a babies bum.

It was faster on higher settings? Max Payne is like that on my old computer (which I got in 1999 and has an ATI Rage Fury), with the texture detail anyway.

Ok, then. It says the minimum is 128MB, which would probably mean for lowest settings. Mine crashed at the second loading screen on the highest settings. High settings, but with the texture and actor quality at medium worked but it skipped quite a bit. It didn't skip enough to really effect gameplay though.

You definitely need a better card to play Bioshock. I went all out and got my new card and 2 more Gig of RAM.

Bioshock is a demanding game.

I don't really need a better video card to play Bioshock, since it does meet the minimum requirements (barely). But the rest of my computer just barely meets Bioshock's requirements, too.

Processor:
Bioshock requirement: 2.4GHz Single Core Processor
My computer: 3.0GHz Single Core Processor
Bioshock recommended: 3.0GHz Dual Core Processor

RAM:
Bioshock requirement: 1GB
My computer: 1GB
Bioshock recommended: 2GB

Video RAM:
Bioshock requirement: 128MB
My computer: 128MB
Bioshock recommended: 512MB

Video Card:
Bioshock requirement: GeForce 6600 or faster
My computer: GeForce 6600GT
Bioshock recommended: GeForce 7900GT for DX9, GeForce 8600 for DX10

In this case the XBox 360 version would be a better way to go.

just spent the past two days watching videos and looking through the cool art book (free by the way: LINK)

and i have to say, although the weird concept didn't grab me at first, it has really grown on me, and Ive just purchased it and waiting for it to arrive, cant wait

never bothered with the demo, waste of time, when its obviously a great game and im confident with that.

I bothered getting the demo, as it was a test to see if my computer could run Bioshock on full settings. It could, but lagged, so I upgraded

Minimal Settings Don't always meaning anything, you can slide by below them - as you meet the requirements they give, I'm sure it'll do fine on medium or high settings:

GRAW is 2.0ghz, 1gb Ram, 128mb gfx minimum requirements, I've been running the demo and minimum settings at an okay speed (that's constant) on 1.5ghz 512mb ram, 256mb gfx on an old AGP 4x motherboard.

Play the demo on your system and see if you can get any good results and see how well you do, but I'd probably not buy it through steam if you're going for the PC version, I've found when I've met the requirements of a game, with steam running, the game runs poorly (Like with Half Life 2 before I upgraded my ram)

I very much doubt that, Deathead. Unless you ran through it and used cheats, you could not possibly complete it in one day. The only way you could complete it, is if you had it on easy mode and sat at the computer for 12 hours straight.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that it is a short game. I'm going around looking at every thing though, opening up cabinets and tills etc. I'm also hacking every security bot I find, along with cameras.
