Has anyone heard anything bad about this company:
http://www.websitespot.com

They are doing a 1.99 1st time domain name registering special. I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything bad (or good) about them. I can't seem to see anything on google about them. So I was hoping that some one might be able to tell me if this is a trusted site.

Really, I want to know how their customer service is, how long they've been around, and how much control I'll have over it.

If you do some DNS lookups (WHOIS) on their domain, you should be able to get their (or their parent) company name, and from there, punch that into google to see if you can find out business information.
Also, the DNS record will tell you when it was registered.

Hmm thanks. According to the Whois lookup,

I've read that people like that host. So, so far it looks alright.

Though, I just used the waybackmachine.org to see what their website looked like, and uh... They changed their layout/content almost every 3 months. I donno. I suppose I should just get a domain with godaddy or something like everyone else.

I read that websitespot was owned by godaddy, don't know if this is true. I would say if people are happy with it, and you can't find any sites saying it's a scam right off the top, then it's fair to say it's probably ok.

OK, I get it now. They want me to buy hosting and a blog and then my domain is 1.99. Well that sucks. Oh well, I think I'll just buy off godaddy.

Wait a minute... I just did a random checkout thing. And the http://www.websitespot.com is cheaper by 4 dollars. . Hmm. I suppose I should go with godaddy anyway because they seem like a safer choice.

I would recommend buying domains from domainsite.com, personally. Though you might save a buck or two for the first year through godaddy, and a lot of people like their domain managing software. Personally I think their backend hosting software sucks.

I've had winsave.com for 4 years now at 8.95 a month. Always reliable, they dont complain about anything. For the price, I've been extremely happy with them.

Well, I just need a domain only. I already have a host (at dreamhost.com). But I saw that they're related to hostway.com

Heck, they have domains at 7.95/yr Has anyone else heard about them? I saw on Google they had lengthy downtime due to improper migration planning. I never read any of the articles, but that sounds like a 1 time thing.
