Things have been goin pretty good for my deck company, I've got sources for the veneers and glues that should be sticking with me for as long as I need them. I took the last 3 weeks to make a new press for the decks out of concrete (I made about 5 different ones, trial and error process is what took so long, concrete didnt set properly, shape wasnt right, etc). I've got a good solid concrete press now, and enough veneer for 5 decks (35 sheets). I just finished the first deck (the rough one, just to test the press and whatnot) and its awesome, skates just like a pro deck.

It's clear coated, sanded and gripped. I should have a video of my friends / I skating my decks in the next week or so once I make a few more and tweak the press a bit.

Photos:

The concrete press (this was the 2nd press, I have a better one now).

Shot of the deck after sanding, not clear coated or gripped yet.

Final deck (without hardware on), the guys at West49 suck at gripping... I'll definitely do it myself next time:

Im thinkin another 2 weeks or so and things should be in full production. I still need to order a new type of glue so the decks will be stronger, right now Im using an epoxy that works fine but there's a better cheaper product out there used only for skateboards.

If anyones in the market for a deck, right now Im planning on selling them for $25 - $30 each ($5 more if you want it gripped). Considering decks go for around $100 today, I'd say thats a fair price .

i wish you would have started this company a few years ago when my cousin still skated. I mean this kid was phenominal. hes 19 now, when he was he had been skating for 5 years, or maybe 7 he could kickflip sooo freaking high. He could impossible, i think he could almost double kick flip. i know skating has changed alot since 03 or 04, but he was pretty nice. Anyway yeah looking good. man

Thanks Jess / Smoke, yeah every time I get a deck gripped at West they do a horrible job, they dont even sand over the edges. I wasn't planning on doing a design on the bottom since it was just a test deck, but last night I was bored in my friend's basement and used a permanent marker to draw some junk on.

skating hasnt changed much at all since 03 or 04... it hasnt changed much at all since the early 90's.

I'd be more than willing to support your company..any chance of seeing a dbp exclusive deck? Used to skate a little myself but all I could do was a kickflip haha, but I was proud of it. When money comes back to me I'll send it to you.

Yeah a DBP deck would be fine... I wouldnt advertise it though , not the best way to get skaters into a company by making a programming deck (especially because I've already got a geek deck, which is pretty sweet, uses the super nintendo controller and the power symbol).

Just drop me an email if / when you're lookin to buy it, and I'll get it ready. Usually takes around 2 days to make it, plus however long it takes to ship it to you.

No problem. Just incase you didnt see the pricing, it should be around $25 - $30, plus whatever shipping / handling is.

How much for a whole skate board? (Deck, wheels, trunks, etc.)

Looking great. This is actually amazing.

I dont make completes, just the decks. But if you're looking for a generic price...

For buying a good complete (pro board $90, good trucks $50, hardware $5 or free with trucks, good wheels $20, good barrings $10, grip tape $10), you're up to... around $200 once tax factors in. But places like West 49 and some of the bigger skate shops like Shred Central will sell completes already made and boxed for usually around $150, or you can get the skateshop's official blank decks (most skateshops have em) that go for around $60 for everything.

Blank decks have a lot of flaws though. For one thing, they're almost always made out of birch instead of maple, which gets ruined a lot quicker, doesn't stand up to water good, isn't as stiff as maple, and it cracks easier. They also tend to use a less quality glue on blanks, and the concave (the bend in the middle of the deck that gives you better "pop") is usually a lot smaller as well. That, and the trucks / wheels aren't the greatest either.

You can also go to eBay to buy completes or parts on their own. Theres a skate company on eBay called TGM Skateboards, and they offer great prices for everything, including decks (but not as great as mine ).

So yeah... I dont do completes, just the decks.

I need to get back into skating again, it was always fun to see how far you could go.
