I know my computer is horrible:

manufacturer: Gateway/E-Machines(can't change that)
Processor: AMD Sempron 3600+, 2GHZ, single core
Windows Vista Home Basic
512 MB DIMM RAM
3 hard drives(128 GB, 32GB, 16GB)

so, what should I upgrade first?

If everything was back to normal, it would happen again.

RAM.

Especially if you're trying to run Vista on it.

The processor is fine for at least another 6 to 10 months. Only upgrade your harddrive space if you need to.

What video card do you have?

RAM. Definitely RAM! I have 2 Gigs of RAM and my Vista seems to use almost 50% of it.

Your computer is horrible? Well all right, I'd be more than happy to swap with you.

But what you've given us there, I'd say ram, but I'm currently happy with 512mb as I just upgraded from 256mb.

That's because Windows likes to use as much free ram as it can for performance, when you're running a game or something you'll notice Vista will use a lot less.

If you can't change it for a new computer I'd say the graphics card first a 6150 is slow. You might as well get a DX10 card if your using vista but i guess if it's not using PCI-E you might be snookered on an 8xxx card.

upgrade the ram and gpu, is it agp or pci-e? your computer is not that bad, vista is just incredibly resource hungry, it will run much faster on xp

learn blender, you will never regret it.
