I've found by trying several MMORPG's that they're bore me after a while and occasionally think 'shouldn't there be more to this game? because I'm getting bored now...quest after quest, it's all the same and before I can have the thrill of anything new, I have to wait age until my character levels up'. The better games have kept me interested long enough to get my character up to level 35. With Tale of Pirates I was thinking, level 40 would be where I can start to have fun, I can get a decent boat, a better weapon, I can access more areas and do other things. The comes to problem of Levelling up between 35 and 40...Between there the only weapons you get access to, I don't like and spending ages levelling up and doing the same old quests bore me (and I've got to the point with story quests my character isn't tough enough) so incidentally, I'm put off playing it.

Other games I've played with a similar outcome:
-Kal Online
-Dungeon Runner
-Runescape
-Voyager Online (or something like that)
-This China based one I forgot the name of (3D characters, 2D background)

Games I've found fun but can't play anymore:
ROSE Online - The gits slapped a server charge on it
Silkroad Online - The servers are so damn busy I can never ever ever log in. Though when I could I found it fun, though similar to Kal Online, it had more in it.
I downloaded Flyff - but it won't install.

So anybody know of any worthwhile freebies out there?

From what i've understood, anarchy online is free now.

If they have retracted their offer, you could always get my account.

All MMORPGs are rubbish in my opinion. They are about sinking hours into clicking "attack" and not about using any skill.

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

Cheers, I've looked at both of those - sound cool...With Anarchy Online is that 'your subscription is free until January 08' or 'This offer is free until that date'? So would I not have to pay server costs at a later date? Because I hate having to pay money on servers.

I was beginning to agree with you, just attacking gets boring, which most of the ones I've played have been just like that.

Meh, that's 4 months from now, until then you've played yourselfed bored of the game anyway. I managed it in one month.

Then again, MMO's aren't keeping my boat afloat.

Guild Wars is good, you do have to pay around £25 for it first but after that it's free. I gave up on it a long time ago after maxing out 4 level 20 characters.

It's not free, but take a look at Chronicles of Spellborn. Sorry, a bit of chauvinism for mentioning that game, it's made by dutch developers - and has a realtime active combat system (ie strafing, aiming, attacking).

If you're all MMORPGed out why don't you switch to a FPS

War Rock (www.warrock.net) and Gunz Online

are ok for a bit of intant action without years of training.

if you still want a free quality MMORPG you could try one of the commercial MMORPG clone servers in the Top 100 lists with like 100x exp rate.

Google "top 100 private servers"

It can be a bit of a fiddle patching the client software to make it work but you can play all your favorite MMORPGs faster and stop worrying about dieing and losing a level that took you 2 weeks to gain and have fun instead

Another FPS for a quick blast is Quake III Demo.

If the lobby hasn't been DDOSed offline you can still find many people playing it and the the full version online.

Cool, I've played the q3 demo before, but after checking out anarchy online I'll check out gunz. I'd do both but as my PC is ancient I kind of have 2gb to spare.

No way I'm going to play Anarchy online...too much of a pain...Waiting ages to download, waited ages to unzip, waited ages to install...eager for the install to finish and to test it out...needs a massive patch installled before I can play...takes ages to download that too...I start to install it...Tried this more than once and I get errors - so it's too much hassle to bother with and well, there was the chance I'd pay for it monthly afterwards (as serve prices looked pretty good and I'd be able to afford in January) I can see it only as their loss.

I've got Maple Story downloaded and I'll check out Last Chaos.

Pristontale was free, and an excellent free mmorpg. Haven't played it in a year, but it was pretty fun and visually appealing. It might be your standard point and attack mmorpg though, just check it out and see if it fits your tastes.

Been there done that, didn't like the food...Besides you're an English guy living in France, you're one to talk amigo.

What's wrong with playing MMORPG's (As long as you're not sad, lonely and looking for friends through one)?...Though I've only ever seen 2 I've liked.

Yeah something like that, but if we live up to the truth then we would have passed the 'denial' stage by now and well, being English, we're too proud and arrogant to even accept the problem...Heck I didn't even just say that, you're insane and you're imagining things.

i play guild wars, and find it a nice break from WOW, which now days is pure power level / get the grandest gear / run instances all day...lost it's fun...but for some reason I still play.

Guild Wars I believe you can download for about $35(US) on their site, then it's free for life. There are 2 expansions out right now, with a third on it's way.

Another good one is Pirate King I play a gunner pirate, fun times, loot ships and kill monsters, though, a lot like WOW in the attack everything, gather stuff department.

Maple story was fun for the first few hours, but after that it was endless kill 100 guys to just get 5 quest items...lost it's fun quick

If your in a retro mood, Legend of Green Dragon is fun to play, and theres' nothing to download.

I'll have to download it again though, I was getting bored of it, but if you want me to lead you to several gruesome deaths, then yeah I could enjoy that. Though what server you on? I'm on the first one and I'll give you my user name when I get it downloaded. I'll probably be on it in the afternoon tomorrow if my download don't screw up.

Online MMORPGs suck big fat A$$! The slightly fast ferret guy with the gun has got it right "sinking hours into clicking ATTACK", that stuff is just boring. The only vaguely decent one I've played is Bootleggers, and I only say that because of the Organised Crimes: you can organise a bank job, you have to recruit other players to join you and gather supplies, the vehicles and weapons are all entered into the equation and hey presto!
The thing that is lacking from most of these games is that you hardly ever interact with the other players; isn't this the whole POINT!!!
And I'm sick of seeing crappy Gangster games made by people who haven't a clue about gangsters, the game GangStars has the tag-line "Kiss the Don's ring or die!!" Now that's just F*&^ing stupid

I am doing a lot of research into the Mafia, and I'm gonna make the best Mafia simulation ever! It's all about knowing how things link together; the main entities are the Families, the Police, the Politicians, the Labour Unions, the workers and the company directors. But I'll stop talking about a pipe dream for now until I have some hard evidence to show

I suppose the question should be: Is there such a thing as a decent MMORPG?
I want some skill to be involved in the games I play. Not how long I am willing to spend doing the same things over and over again. Little things can make it bearable, such as the timing and mini-mini-games on M&L: Partners In Time upon each attack. It made it more interesting; actually fun.

Not when you're in your boat...costs too much to repair...

Quote: "Online MMORPGs suck big fat A$$!"

Not always..just most of the time really, I found very few actually have other things going with them at least with Tale of Pirates there's the shipping side of things, you can buy decent boats, go fishing, salvage ship wrecks for loot, trade loot with other players or at dock to earn more money - though I do wish there was more to the game though to be honest. At least there are secret areas and some you can access through acquiring certain things and you have the fun collecting stuff - but still, even then it gets samey. MMORPGs have a lot of potential for more variation, it's just they fail using variation to their best advantage...for example, so feature of Tale of Pirates require me to be a higher level, but between my current level and level 40, there isn't much of interest to do - the 'interesting' story quests I need to be a higher level to continue (or I almost instantly) the normal quests are all the same, the ship trade stuff doesn't get your levels up which leaves the boring hack and slash stuff until I'm level 40...So I can see why people come up with their convictions. But I have played 2 interesting MMORPGs that got bored of me before I got bored of them - so they don't 'suck a**' as such, it's just a lot of them don't keep your interest up long enough.

But hey for free games they can keep you entertained without paying a penny (hence I'm asking for the freebies) I mean I'm actually put off from buying an MMORPG - even Guild Wars which is a 'pay once system.'

Unfortunately if I did that, my Mum would kill me - probably chase me around the village with a rake or something...And well I don't think I get a garden with university accommodation...shame, I need somewhere to bury the dead bodies of my victims.
