Step 1: Take any .JPG image you want, and all the files you want to hide in that image, and put them directly in your 'C:\' folder

Step 2: Take all the files and zip them up into a .zip file. Name it "MyFiles.zip".

Step 3: Rename your picture to MyPicture.jpg

Step 4: Go to Start Menu\Run\Type "cmd"\Click OK (This opens the command prompt)

Step 5: Type "cd\" and hit enter (This places you in your directory C:\ where the files are)

Step 6: Type in "COPY /B MyPicture.jpg + MyFiles.zip MySecretPicture.jpg" and then hit enter

If you typed it in right, it will say 1 file copied. Now go to C:\ and you will find that new image. Open it, its just an image. Rename it to .zip instead of .jpg and then open it, and there are your hidden files.

Have fun!

So I assume COPY is just appending the file together with the + operand, so the JPEG header and data will appear at the beginning of the file, and will read like a normal JPEG... and since the JPEG viewer will read until 0xFFD9 in the JPEG, the rest of the file is ignored... which is pretty clever really

And since ZIPs can be spanned and do all sorts of weird things, I assume the archivers are quite lenient, and will search for the ZIP signature instead of expecting it straight at the top of the file.

Is the JPEG image which is appended to the ZIP ignored when you open it as a ZIP then? (doesn't appear etc.) I assume it is, but yeah, nice trick

That's actually really nice to know. As a digital forensics major, we often looked for data contained in the jpg images themselves, such as hidden words cleverly hidden within the byte data in a way it doesn't change the image's appearence. Nice way to hide a password.

Sweet! Now everybody can be a secret agent!

@ Phaelax:

I've always wanted to know how to do that. I read it in one of the books in the Ender series...

Interesting...

Now my overly large and evil corporation can smuggle stolen account information out of the country inside of innocent looking lolcat pictures...

How mad am I right now?, VERY MAD!! Do you know how long it took me to fix my computer after all my zip files wouldn't open. And I can't imagine how long it would take to reinstall my webserver, which was deleted in the process of my computer crashing.

Let this be a warning before messing with zip files( in vista), DONT.

If you'd like me to explain,

Well I wake up at 6, go to school at 8. I spend most of my time at school flirting with girls, and copying answers off other kids, since I'm just good friends with everybody.

After school I manage the girls volleyball team with my best friend Justin. Trust me, if you have the opportunity to do this, take it. Never made a better decision in my life

Then I come home and do my homework and talk online to people. After that, I play basketball, then come inside and program and what not.

I'm waiting for winter when I'll have basketball on a team maybe once or twice everyday. Can't wait.

Saatisfied?

Anyway,
It doesn't work for me unless I use WinRAR to open the zip file, but it doesn't require renaming either

OHHH. So you don't type on a Pocket PC with a copy of Windows Mobile all day. Now I can hide my Linux files from Windows before it deletes them.
