I know players can slow/drop packets in network games.

I know there are a couple of tools to slow your upload speed for file sharing and cheats use it on games to send out their positon slowly.

I read about it on a warrock.net "why is punkbuster stopping me entering the game" thread, but i can't for the life of me find the same thread :/

I've searched high and low on google but cant find any of this software.

Anyone got any ideas?

It's for my report, I need to prove my software stops it. I'm not trying to cheat or anything

thanx

p.s. i tried Speed Limiter by Delite but it only seems to work for web traffic. idn't seem to affect game traffic on port 3999

There's a device called a 56k modem that'll do just what you want.

I sure people have often thought..

"damn my brother's downloading music files and it's eating bandwidth and slowing down my game!"

Bung this on his PC and it won't be a problem no more.

It works as a firewall too, so you could just say "I'm installing a firewall for ya bro so you will be safe" muhahaha

Or just give him a kb/s limit of 1 on the router. Man, that's funny.

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

Some P2P sharing software is cunning and can use any port it finds free and the router wont stop it. With this thing it identifies the process/exe so it can't wriggle out of it, any port it tries to use gets limited

What router do you have that lets you set limits for different PCs?

You could limit per mac address (network card ID) or port number (where you cable plugs in)

not something my netgear home router does but i have seen it on quality 3Com & Cisco manages switches and routers.
