I am currently working on a lowpoly zombie character in cartoon style. It won't be used in FPSC (u-uh... blasphemy... mods have mercy...). I wanna use this character in a XNA game that I am currently trying to develop but because I have to rig and animate it anyway, I will create also a FPSC character of it.

Here is its "making of":

First I model a "very-low-poly" version using box modeling technique:

I use Cinema 4D so I throw it in Hyper NURBS object:

Of course the mesh still needs optimization work because many polygons can be removed.

I am quite satisfied with the optimization of the mesh. It has now 1570 polygons (compared with 2580 polygons of the hyper-nurbs version). I don’t spend too much time on the uv-mesh. I hope that it won’t be necessary with the simple textures that I apply. Of course there are no overlapping polygons and I try to arrange the different materials as good as possible.

I export it and in FPSC it looks like this (no shaders/maps or lights applied):

I'll get back to you when the character is rigged.

I like this.
A heck of a lot.
This would look great with cartoon segments.
Love it

Impressive and original. I give it a 9.(only because nothing is perfect) Slightly reminiscent of Grim Fandango.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

Looking very nice!

Will you animate it with custom animations?
Or with the zombie bipeds provided by Bond1?

@Deathead, Smitho, Ezykeyal, Fred P and Disturbing 13
Thanks

@X Games
If you like this "making of" then maybe you'll be interested also in this.

@rolfy
I check the forums daily but you are correct, I haven't posted much lately. I found a new sandbox (XNA), enjoyed the summer (swimming) and my private life (-beep-).

@ASTEK & xplosys
Grim Fandango is one of my all-time-favourites also, and you are right, the character has Manny's look though this was not intended. I rather wanted a manga-like character...

@Cheese Cake
Bond1's zombie animations are the best that are available for fpsc, but I couldn't find a copyright notice. Are they free to use in commercial- and indie-games?

@Smitho
I am still waiting for the first cartoon-style FPSC game. If I were not that lazy I would have created it myself... I even have some ideas (who hasn't!) and if this character will still look o.k. when it is animated, then I might even finish it when I am sixty-four.

Zilla.
I think you may use them in commercial ways.
Or for private use.
Disturbing13 also has the same animations (maybe some different tweaks) or is he using custom animations?

But anyway i dont know for sure, so you could email him and as about it.
But i am pretty sure that you may use it as you want.
Unless you want to sell the biped alone or such.

Heh heh heh...

It will be for a game. But I'll make all my models available. I have quite a simple pricing plan:

- Animated characters/models are 1$ (the original price of a song in iTunes - I am also a musician in my "first" life )
- "Static" models and casual games are and will be free

Check my website SwissKGB.com

@White Fang 12 & i want to game
Thank you

Juhuiii! I think I mastered the FPSC-character-creating-pipeline.
This is my second FPSC-character (here is my first) and it was biped and (standard-)animated in no time. I spend days on this with my first model...

You can watch the full animation HERE.

That's a bit cheap, should be $4-$5. Actually if you wanted to make money, some of your characters are worth $10-$20.

The ZZZombie is now FPSC-ready and here are some ingame screenshots.

As you can see there is a small problem: The ZZZombie is not standing exactly on the ground. I don’t understand this yet because this happens only on my Vista-PC. On my Windows2000-machine, the figure is even standing a little bit above the ground.

It's a little bit FPSC-off-topic, but if you wanna see this character in my 2D platformer, don't leave this thread until you've seen the youtube video.

Thank you very much

This character not only belongs to this XNA platformer but also to an idea of a FPSC-game that still not exists.
I am working on a concept and I also hope that I will make more models in this style. But don't expect them in the next few months because I have to finish another project for a customer.
