Does anyone have the new iPod touch or nano? Which iPod do you think is the best deal/offers the most for the best price? Does anyone have the iPhone yet? Is it worth the $400? Everyone feel free to share your Apple opinions.

I'd personally get a zune over an ipod. The zune does way more stuff than an ipod. And the new ipod's are way too expensive to justify purchasing.

As for the iphone.... this says it all:

Is any iPod worth purchasing when a 2Gb MP3 player with a 1.4in colour screen and Li-ion battery can be obtained from Eclipse for a mere £21?

I would get a zune if they still had those special edition halo ones... But I've said it before and I'll say it again, no ipod can compare to the amazingness of my three-year-old special edition zire 72 palm pilot!

The new Ipod is an Iphone without any phone features
I love my ipod at the moment, not going to trade it in for one that has less memory and a touch screen.

In 850mb I have 270 songs. In 2gb it should be possible to get about 500. Is 500 songs not enough? I often drop half the songs in an album. Remove the ones you don't like, and you should easily fit enough songs on for hours of listening. 60 minutes = roughly 12-14 songs.

Meh? I have about 200-400 songs (depending on lenght and what it is) on 2 gigs. I like my music to sound good though, and I like carrying entire albums...

I spose you could probably hold roughly 10 cd's on one of those... But I'd just as soon carry my full music collection on an mp3 player if I could afford it... for that we're looking at well over 20-30 gigs for me^.^

I saw 160GB ipods for £230 on amazon. That works out at £1.50 for 1GB which is quite cheap.
I however have a tiny 512mb mp3 player made by akura for £5!

I use a Samsung D600 mobile phone with a 1Gb card and a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
Awesome.

Personally i think they should have stopped making them smaller at the mini. The mini was the perfect size, small but still durable. I have friends who have gone through 7 or 8 nanos because they break easily.

I use my Motorola Razr V3M with (right now) a 512 meg SD micro card. I have (I think) 104 songs on there. It's not quite full yet, but 104 songs is a good 4-5 hours of music. It served me well on a family vacation, just put it on shuffle, and go to sleep in the back seat. Made car rides so much more enjoyable once my laptop battery ran out

Personally, I use my DS with free homebrew software to play MP3s and Ogg Vorbis files.

Works a treat, and I can hold as many MP3s as my miniSD card will let me.

iPods are expensive, overrated, and used by people who think that MP3 players are fashion accessories.

Last year, I managed to convince my mom to buy me a 4GB 1st gen Nano for 2000HKD. Expensive, yes. Awesome - very yes, especially with Lanyard earphones. Considering I take the train to and from uni, wearing it around my neck and under my shirt feels much safer than keeping anything else in my pocket.

Honestly, Symbian S60v3 phones are the most interesting right now since the applications are abundant. It's also a great dev platform if you're into it (J2ME, PyS60, and the mandatory C++). Get an S60v3 phone and a separate mp3 player, your money will go further and so will your batteries

That's odd. The Mini has a micro harddrive while the Nanos use the more resilient flash memory. I've wrapped my Nano in a silicone jacket since we bought it, dropped it from chest high countless times, and apart from the aging battery I've never had problems with it.

Hi Arkheii (long time, no speak ),

Sounds like you enjoy it, but was it worth it compared to the 21 pound MP3 player NeX mentioned?
Or the free MP3 player I use on my DS (cost me the price of homebrew hardware which I had already)?
Or utilizing your phone's MP3 capabilities with headphones (phone speakers are shocking. I don't know why when my DS can output much clearer and balanced sound than any mobile I've heard... Odd)?

I wanted an iPod for a while.
Then I saw that there were alternatives like the iRiver which didn't need any hacking or anything to remove DRM, etc.
Then, finally, I saw cheap MP3 players that could play MP3s and were a fraction of the price.
Being a Uni student also, I never could afford any of them, but once I got my DS homebrew, I use the MP3 capabilities when I need.

Anyway, each to their own, and besides, this thread is about the new iPod, not the alternatives to iPods

'Sup Jess, it's been a while Glad to know you're getting the most out of your DS. I really wanted one myself until I decided to buy a video card instead. Buying the latest iPod of the time will always cost an arm and leg, but I guess the same goes for buying video cards. How much is a Geforce 6600 nowadays compared to when it first came out? But yeah, I can probably sell this and buy a cheaper player, and use the extra money on a better set of earphones

Back on topic. The new iPods are... fat?

I agree that iPods are extremely overpriced but they have gotten better over the years. I mean I paid $250 for my 4th gen 20GB iPod when it first came out. Now you can get a 80GB one with color display and video capabilities for the same price. Here in the US iPods have such a monopoly over the mp3 player market that probly 9/10 people couldn't name any other type of mp3 player...sad i know

The new Nano looks pretty cool even though it's fat, and the Ipod touch looks nice. I'm looking into some other options that work better with WMP and are a bit cheaper.
