Yeah just heard. Colin (39) is dead. Looks like his five year old son and 2 others died in the helecopter crash near his house as well. He leaves a wife Alison (childhood sweetheart) and daughter Hollie (9).

RIP

If you don't know he is you probably played the Rally games..

This can't be real. McRae, dead in an accident? He's one of those legends who should die old and surrounded by friends.

Another proof of how fragile something we take so for granted actually is. Life. My thoughts and prayer to him, his son, and those he left behind. May he rest in peace.

Screw the rally games, he should be remembered for the fact he was a rally legend.

My thoughts go out to his family.

Sad stuff. Rallying is, imo, the greatest skill motorsport of them all, making McRae possibly the greatest driver of all time.

"Strathclyde Police released the names of the four people they thought were on board the crashed aircraft on Saturday. "

It is almost certain it's him, but still unconfirmed.

BREAKING NEWS: McRae confirmed dead in crash
Comment | Read Comments (4)

Colin McRae and two children - one his five-year-old son - died in the helicopter crash near his Scottish home.

Strathclyde Police said they now know the 39-year-old former world rally champion, his son Johnny, and two family friends died in the aircraft which burst into flames in Lanark, Scotland, yesterday afternoon.

The other victims were named as six-year-old Ben Porcelli, of Lanark, and Graeme Duncan, 37, who lived in France.

I hate it when someone dies it goes so quick. Like Steve Irwin, I was watching a documentry he made and then the next morning he was killed by a stingray. Its all fate I tells ya all fate.

I cant believe Colin survived so many WRC's driving a car at 150% of the speed its meant to be driven at over ice, gravel, sand and tarmac and then, after retiring from the sport, he bites it from a helicopter accident!

I wonder what actually caused the crash (ie 'driver error' or malfunction of a component somewhere)....

That's quite insensitive.

He was a true great, I heard it on the news and had to double check it was real.
A lot of people idolised that guy.

I think it was mechanical, by the way its being reported it sounds like it caught fire in the air which forced them to crash.

life is so fragile, the best we can do is remember that he had a good life, he did what he loved, and he will be missed.

It is quite an ironic way to go really, still a shame.
Hope this doesn\'t end up going down like when Ayton Senna died; just pissed me off hearing all of those jokes about how he couldn\'t take corners no more than a few days after the accident.

Some are insensitive, then others are just a-holes.

What, to a giant 404? Nice...

Shame about Colin though. Felt similar when Richard Burns died.

Cheers

I don't know, when Richard Burns died I wasn't really so about it. It's not like the guy was young as such, but Colin McRae was, not to mention according to reports he had two of his children with him.

That to me is more tragic because they had so much living to do yet.

One was his, one wasn't.

Man I loved that bloke, my Father knew him, he worked for him at one point, he was quite disturbed by his death. He's over it now but it came as a bit of a shock to him.

Sure you have the right guy? Burns was 34 (my age incidentally) when he died I believe. McRae was 39.

Well, hardly harmless considering it shoved a large spike through his heart. But I get what you mean. Death by kitten is probably more like it.
