The hotter the CPU, the faster it is going to burn out.

That's why I bought a silent knight from asus, to cool my CPU. It was reaching 52C with the stock fan while playing games. It is now only reaching 42C while playing games. It is 35C idle.

I could only get a 10% boost, but it still shows.

Your CPU temp looks good, so there shouldn't be any problems.

I'm not too sure on the voltages, still learning that in college, but I think as long as they are below 2V it's OK.

well im not 2 sure about the core 2 duo, but the Pent 4's voltageis about 1.380 i think. Those temps are good, i would go more if i were u

my CPU runs at 58C full load, but then again, 3.0GHz -> 3.6GHz stock cooling with a fan next to it .

heres my theory. By the time the component dies from overclocking, it would be out of date anyway and u should upgrade.

you gotta remember that ur also overclocking the ram when inreasing fsb. thers a point whe the cpu may be fine buy the ram cant cope. if you ever find this to be the case, get some better ram, in as few sticks as posible (more sticks = higher instability)

What are you using to overclock? That doesnt look too much like a bios, is it?

Your about to get pwned.

Yes let the rest of us know how you overclocked the Core 2 Duo

I'm thinking of getting some soon.

I am using the bios to overclock just upping the FSB and that screenshot is from a program in windows called Nvidia Mointor thats came with the motherboard of course because its a nvida 680.

Sadly (for me) it won't let me go over 3.75Ghz it keeps starting in safe mode even though i have heard some get to 4.1 on air is there anyway to override this?

Wow you got your FSB above 1333. I didn't think u could do that.

You might be able to increase the multiplier or the voltage.

The making of chips is random process, you get lots of variance in the max speed they can run before falling over.

if you go to the warehouse, go and hand pick the cpu you wanna buy. on every cpu is a number which tells you the grade of the silicon etc, as gatorhex said, every cpu is different, even if they come from the same production line.

You have a kick butt core 2 duo, why overclock? I'd probably try it in a few years but those things are to precious to burn out right now.

But anyway, apart from trying not to rain on your parade here try not doing such a huge over clock yet. Also keep in mind when you adjust one thing the others usually adjust, so keep the voltage flowing and beware that not every component can handle that much heat. Does your RAM have heat sinks by any chance?

Buy an afterstock cooler. If your serious about actually doing that it's an investment you have to make. Spend 50 bucks and get the top of the line Zalman cooler. You won't regret it. If your really hardcore and have some cash to spend water cool it. I had a friend who actually got their temperature down to 12C with water cooling.

Google overclocking, their are plenty of resources, tutorials and forums out there to teach you. Not saying we don't want to hear about your endeavor's here, but you might get a much bigger response out of those sites.

dont listen to him! overclock to the max!!!

i overclocked by 2.0ghz to 2.2, only an extra 200mhz thats a 10% increase, and boy did i notice the difference i've had to return it to normal though since i got my third stick of ram the system now becomes unstable on a 1% overclock

er... not what I meant. Taking it slowly helps you find your maximum stable overclock. Of course overclock the hell out of it, but you need to do it in steps, not just crank everything up as high as the settings go right away.
