Title says it all, I was wondering if anyone knew how to do this (eg using 8 bars, and when health goes down 12.5% remove a bar and so on).

Avid,

Do a search for "Health HUD". You'll find everything you need to be able to have the function you seek.

Thanks,

I did have a search for that, and I came accross using those head images. Obviously that seems workable, but do I really need to use the same filenames as it says? I'd rather use 3 images (red, yellow, blue bars) and then duplicate. I'll see if I can get it to work, but I have no clue on the ins and outs of the script system, so I'm going to learn the basic syntax before I try anything.

UPDATE:

Got it working, it even goes red when the bars get down to 3. The main problem was working out when to hide/unhide each bar and in what order, and working out the health percentages. I've attached a screenie if anyone wants to see it (I might release a pack of these, basically huds in the style of the best fps games).

And one more thing, does anyone know what might be making the icon for the gun really small? I can't seem to pin-point it. Thanks

I just fixed the problem with the gun icon, and I've retextured one of the model pack 6 weapons. I'll post another screenie when I add a backdrop hud element for the weapon icon.

It's just a modification of the head hud system. I created 10 bar textures and then made them appear all at once, and be removed one at a time. I might post the entire setup when I'm done.

Also attached the final preview pic.

Ok drumroll please...

It's released! (unless it doesn't work, in which case it's a bit of an anti-climax)

Included in the attachment box for this post.

The zip file contains the correct paths for everything, although the folder 'halohud' should be substituted for the name of your project. You might also want to remove the health indicator number (although I've forgotten how). Finally, the system assumes player health is 500, so make sure you leave it like that, otherwise some modification is in order (It hurt my head working out those percentages, so try not to fiddle with them for my sake :p).

I won't give any more help than that, it just requires some initiative, which actually makes it more satisfying when it works.

I think the gun problem is related to the file ammo.dds being small, make it 128x64 and it should be scaled correctly. It should work, in fact, I tested integrating it into a brand new built game, and it worked fine.

I never intended this to be distributed, but it felt stingy not to. Because of this, the files may be slightly jumbled (but didn't appeared to be). Like I said, if you know a little about fpi scripting you'll be ok, else you'll have to understand the file placement, so study setup level.fpi. A little late yes, but I'll stick this little bit on the end for clarification when people search:

This file is NOT meant for beginners who haven't a clue about setuplevel.fpi and it's associated files

Way-to-bump!

Yes, thank you for the HUD. Now I know who made it so I can credit them.

That question is beyond the scope of this thread. What I assume you are asking (a moving health trace), is difficult to do and would not be perfect. Asks this in a separate thread, I'd prefer this not to be cluttered too much.

If anyone has any serious issues involving my hud system (relating to it AS IS, not with any modifications you have made or would like to make), post them here. If you want to do something that doesn't relate to the hud, create a new thread. Let one of the more experienced scripters solve the problem. I do media stuff, programming is for the guys who like coffee. And I hate coffee .
