I am trying to set up a webserver on my computer on a router which blocks port 80. I configured the server to run on port 8080 and it seems to work from any place in my network and my computer but
hen I type in http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080,(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx being my WAN ip address) the website cannot be found. When I used one of thoose tools that detect servers in your ports, It told me that a server was running on port 8080 with no errors. So, why can't I see my website from the internet?

should be // not \\

Using a firewall such as XP's built in firewall? Then you need to open up port 8080.

Also router mainly default to blocking ALL incoming ports, so you need to set up a port forward for port 80 to your LAN ip address.

your router doesnt support loopbacking, meaning you cant send a signal out to your isp, and bounce it back at yourself.

If you can look at your website from another external machine, ie from somewhere else, then you're good to go.

(it could also, or there could additionally, be an issue with your firewall)

I can see my website on my local network from this computer. i'll try that but, if thats not the problem you have to pay me for the walk to another computer.

tried that to.

I tried it on a network computer and it didn't work. Does this "loopback" thing need a computer outside the network?
